Publication number: 20090235045Abstract: Current BD specification prescribes the following format for the ADIP: 24 bits, 3 of which to indicate the layer number, 19 for the RUB number, and 2 to be set to 00, 01 and 10 consecutively in the 3 successive ADIP words corresponding to one RUB that is the smallest partition of data that can be written on the disc. From this it derives that at most 32.2 GB of storage space can be addressed. Due to recent developments however, a storage capacity of 35 GB per layer could be achieved. A slight modification of the ADIP format is proposed, so as to allow an extension of the addressing space: the setting 11 for the two least significant bits is allowed, while the 19 bits no longer represent the RUB number. A drive will nevertheless convert the ADIP into a RUB number and vice versa, in a way which is transparent to a host device or application program.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 30, 2005Publication date: September 17, 2009Applicant: KONINKLIJKE PHILIPS ELECTRONICS, N.V.Inventors: Bart Van Rompaey, Alexander Padiy

Publication number: 20080316071Abstract: This invention relates to a method of converting a user bitstream into a coded bitstream by means of a runlengh limited (d, k) channel code where the channel code has a constraint of d=1. In order to ensure an improvement in bit detection performance an additional RMTR constraint of r=2 is imposed limiting to two the maximum number of minimum runs allowed by the d=1 constraint. An additional advantage of such a code is a limitation of the back-tracking depth of a Viterbi bit-detector Based on two different k constraints the construction of such d=1 and r=2 codes is disclosed.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 9, 2005Publication date: December 25, 2008Applicant: KONINKLIJKE PHILIPS ELECTRONICS, N.V.Inventors: Willem Marie Julia Marcel Coene, Alexander Padiy

Publication number: 20080259758Abstract: A partial response maximum likelihood decoder, such as a Viterbi decoder, implements a set of combined states where each combined state can represent at least two states from a plurality of complementary sets of states. For each data symbol and each combined state, a Viterbi processor (703) determines a path metric and a substate indication for each path to the combined state. A path selection processor (709) of the Viterbi processor (703) selects a selected path and a selected sub state indication for the path which corresponds to a highest likelihood path metric. The substate indication is an indication of which of the complementary set of states the combined state represents for the data symbol. The invention allows a substantial complexity reduction and/or reduced computational burden as the Viterbi algorithm can be applied to a reduced number of combined states.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 11, 2006Publication date: October 23, 2008Applicant: KONINKLIJKE PHILIPS ELECTRONICS, N.V.Inventor: Alexander Padiy
