  • Publication number: 20240153182
Abstract: A method for updating a subject avatar with a facial expression collected in real time. The method includes receiving, from a sensor on a facial interface of a headset, a signal indicative of a movement in a facial muscle from a user of the headset, determining a facial expression of the user with the signal from the sensor in the facial interface of the headset, based on a machine learning algorithm trained to associate the facial expression to the movement of the facial muscle, adjusting a subject avatar for the user of the headset based on the facial expression, and providing the subject avatar to an immersive reality application hosted by a remote server. A headset, a computer-readable medium storing instructions which, when executed by a processor cause the headset to perform the above method, and the processor, are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20230038506
Abstract: Fabricating a prescription optical element include providing a glass substrate layer and coupling an optical plastic layer to the glass substrate layer. A prescription surfaces is formed on an eyeward side of the optical plastic layer that is opposite an object side of the optical plastic layer. The object side is a planar surface that overlays the glass substrate layer and the glass substrate layer has a glass thickness to provide rigidity to the prescription optical element.

  • Patent number: 11506913
Abstract: An optical element includes a glass substrate layer and an optical plastic layer. The optical plastic layer has a planar surface. A prescription surface may be formed in the optical plastic layer opposite the planar surface.

  • Patent number: 11036291
Abstract: An illuminator includes a semiconductor emitter chip, e.g. a VCSEL chip, configured for emitting a light beam. A polarization-selective element is optically coupled to the semiconductor emitter chip for defining a polarization state of the emitted light beam. A beam redirecting optic is coupled to the polarization-selective element for receiving and at least one of collimating or redirecting the emitted light beam. The polarization-selective element, e.g. a polarization-selective optical feedback element for VCSEL, defines a polarization state of the emitted light beam, thereby stabilizing output optical power of light beam propagated through the beam redirecting optic. A light beam of a constant optical power and a well-defined polarization state may be used as an illumination source for an eye-tracking system.

  • Patent number: 10852824
Abstract: A near-eye optical element, according to aspects herein, includes an illumination layer, an optical combiner layer, and an infrared absorber layer. The illumination layer includes infrared light sources configured to direct narrow-band infrared illumination light to an eyeward side of the near-eye optical element for eye tracking. The optical combiner layer is configured to receive reflected infrared light of the narrow-band infrared illumination light that is reflected off an eye of a user and to direct the reflected infrared light to a camera to generate an eye-tracking image. The infrared absorber layer is disposed between the optical combiner layer and a backside of the near-eye optical element to absorb infrared interference light of the narrow-band.
