  • Publication number: 20080259825
Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing Joint Randomness Not Shared by Others (JRNSO) is disclosed. In one embodiment, JRNSO is determined in Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) using a baseband signal loop back and private pilots. In another embodiment, JRNSO is determined in Time Division Duplex (TDD) using a baseband signal loop back and combinations of private pilots, private gain functions and Kalman filtering directional processing. In one example, the FDD and TDD JRSNO embodiments are performed in Single-Input-Single-Output (SISO) and Single-Input-Multiple-Output (SIMO) communications. In other examples, the FDD and TDD embodiments are performed in Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (MIMO) and Multiple-Input-Single-Output (MISO) communications. JRNSO is determined by reducing MIMO and MISO communications to SISO or SIMO communications. JRNSO is also determined using determinants of MIMO channel products. Channel restrictions are removed by exploiting symmetric properties of matrix products.

  • Patent number: 7428279
Abstract: A sliding window based data estimation is performed. An error is introduced in the data estimation due to the communication model modeling the relationship between the transmitted and received signals. To compensate for an error in the estimated data, the data that was estimated in a previous sliding window step or terms that would otherwise be truncated as noise are used. These techniques allow for the data to be truncated prior to further processing reducing the data of the window.

  • Publication number: 20080198828
Abstract: A multiuser detector method and receiver that detects and decodes synchronous or asynchronous CDMA subchannels having different spreading factors with reduced computational complexity. The multiuser receiver is compatible with ZF-BLE, MMSE, decorrelating detectors and the like using Cholesky decomposition to minimize numeric operations. The receiver and method arranges the columns of system transmission response matrices representing the response characteristics of individual users into a total system transmission response matrix which represents a plurality of matched-filter responses for a given block of received data. The invention when used in conjunction with Cholesky decomposition reduces the number of required mathematic operations prior to parallel matched filtering.

  • Publication number: 20080181163
Abstract: A method for multicasting a packet begins by providing a buffer for each of two user equipments (UEs) in communication with a base station. A determination is made whether there is a previously unsent packet at the base station. A second determination is made whether both UE buffers are non-empty. A non-empty buffer is flushed if there is no previously unsent packet and if one of the buffers is non-empty. A packet is selected to be transmitted if there is a previously unsent packet or if both buffers are non-empty. The buffers are updated based on feedback received from the UEs.

  • Patent number: 7400692
Abstract: At least one wireless communication is received and sampled to produce samples. A channel response is estimated corresponding to the at least one wireless communication. An initial channel correlation matrix is produced based on the received samples and the channel response. The initial channel correlation matrix is factorized to produce a Cholesky factor. Forward substitution is performed using the Cholesky factor and received samples to produce initial values for the at least one wireless communication. The Cholesky factor is updated using additional channel correlation matrix values, producing an updated Cholesky factor. Subsequent values for the at least one wireless communication are produced using the updated Cholesky factor.

  • Publication number: 20080165806
Abstract: A method and apparatus for wireless communication of multimedia broadcast multicast services (MBMS) data and unicast data using separate downlink carriers and are disclosed. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) having a single receiver that is switchable to receive either carrier is provided. A network station, such as a Node-B, preferably encodes K MBMS data packets to N MBMS encoded packets using erasure correction coding where N is preferably significantly greater than (K+?) which is a determined number of MBMS encoded packets sufficient to recover the K MBMS data packets. The Node-B preferably generates a superframe for carrying the N MBMS encoded packets for each MBMS and transmits the superframe via an MBMS carrier. The Node-B preferably schedules a unicast transmission such that the WTRU is provided with sufficient time to switch to the MBMS carrier to receive at least (K+?) MBMS encoded packets per superframe.

  • Publication number: 20080165697
Abstract: A method and apparatus for uplink transmission over a non-contentious shared feedback channel are disclosed, wherein the parameters of the uplink transmission are determined by the parameters of a downlink transmission. A new uplink channel, called a physical shared uplink feedback channel (PSUFCH) is used for uplink transmission such as feedback information in response to a downlink transmission on a fast shared data channel. The content of the feedback information may be general, e.g. an ACK/NACK or a channel quality indicator (CQI). The PSUFCH is transmitted using power ramping that terminates upon reception of a downlink ACK (DLACK) from a Node-B. No ambiguity resolution is required due to the non-contentious and deterministic mapping of the uplink channel resources.

  • Publication number: 20080123851
Abstract: A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) and a Node B, respectively, perform joint randomness not shared by others (JRNSO) measurement to generate JRNSO bits based on a channel estimate between the WTRU and the Node B. The WTRU and the Node B then perform a reconciliation procedure to generate a common JRNSO bits. The Node B sends the common JRNSO bits to a serving network. The WTRU and the SN secure a session key (such as an integrity key, a cipher key and an anonymity key), using the common JRNSO bits. The JRNSO measurements are performed on an on-going basis, and the session key is updated using a new set of common JRNSO bits. The JRNSO bits may be expanded by using a pseudorandom number generator (PNG) or a windowing technique. A handover may be intentionally induced to increase the JRNSO bits generation rate.

  • Publication number: 20080089518
Abstract: A secret stream of bits begins by receiving a public random stream contained in a wireless communication signal at a transmit/receive unit. The public random stream is sampled and specific bits are extracted according to a shared common secret. These extracted bits are used to create a longer secret stream. The shared common secret may be generated using JRNSO techniques, or provided to the transmit/receive units prior to the communication session. Alternatively, one of the transmit/receive unit is assumed to be more powerful than any potential eavesdropper. In this situation, the powerful transmit/receive unit may broadcast and store a public random stream. The weaker transmit/receive unit selects select random bits of the broadcast for creating a key. The weaker transmit/receive unit sends the powerful transmit/receive unit the selected bit numbers, and powerful transmit/receive unit uses the random numbers to produce the key created by the weaker transmit/receive unit.

  • Publication number: 20080084844
Abstract: A wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs) receives a downlink transmission from a Node-B and decodes the downlink transmission. If the decoding is not successful, the WTRU sends a pre-defined burst signifying a negative acknowledgement (NACK) to the Node-B via a contention-based shared feedback channel. The pre-defined burst may be sent only once without requiring an acknowledgement. The Node-B calibrates a downlink transmit power so that the downlink transmission is transmitted to the WTRUs with a high likelihood. The Node-B may send a downlink transmission including multiple data streams processed using different modulation and coding schemes so that a WTRU having a high signal quality decodes all data streams while a WTRU having a low signal quality decodes less than all data streams. The Node-B sends a channel quality indicator (CQI) threshold so that each WTRU determines a data stream to report feedback based on the CQI threshold and a measured CQI.

  • Publication number: 20080080431
Abstract: A method and apparatus for encoding channel quality indicator (CQI) and precoding control information (PCI) bits are disclosed. Each of the input bits, such as CQI bits and/or PCI bits, has a particular significance. The input bits are encoded with a linear block coding. The input bits are provided with an unequal error protection based on the significance of each input bit. The input bits may be duplicated based on the significance of each input bit and equal protection coding may be performed. A generator matrix for the encoding may be generated by elementary operation of conventional basis sequences to provide more protection to a most significant bit (MSB).
