  • Patent number: 9031800
Abstract: Power measurement by tracking of a voltage cycle when voltage and current measurements are taken at different locations on an AC power line, with the devices taking the measurements interconnected by an asynchronous data network. In general, a synchronization/timing message is sent from the voltage sensing side to the current sensing side, with the synchronization/timing message being transmitted at a predetermined point in the periodic voltage cycle. The receipt of the synchronization/timing message by the current sensing side may be used to re-synchronize an internal model of the voltage cycle maintained by the current sensing side to the measured voltage cycle. The predetermined point in the voltage cycle may be the zero-crossing point, or other point, of the voltage cycle.

  • Publication number: 20130062971
Abstract: A circuit breaker module includes an electrically controlled actuator, such as a DC motor, operable to move a breaker contact between open and closed positions. An actuator power supply circuit coupled to an AC power source is configured to selectively energize the actuator, responsive to an actuation input. A processing circuit is configured to control the actuator power supply circuit to activate the actuator in response to breaker command signals, using the actuation input. The processing circuit is further configured to delay activations of the actuator as needed to enforce a predetermined cooling interval between successive actuations.

  • Patent number: 8373068
Abstract: A shunt for measuring current passing through a conductor. The shunt includes a first section and a second section connected in series with the conductor, and a coaxial cable connected between the first and second sections. An outer conductor of the first section surrounds an internal conductor having a resistance lower than that of the outer conductor of the first section. An outer conductor of the second section surrounds an internal conductor having a resistance higher than that of the internal conductor of the second section. The dimensions of the first and second sections are the same. An internal conductor of the cable is connected between the two sections, and an outer conductor of the cable is connected to the outer conductors of the two sections. The voltage across the outer and inner conductors of the cable is proportional to the current passing through the conductor.

  • Patent number: 8063787
Abstract: A point-of-use energy status indicator monitoring the presence or absence of energy at a monitored device that is required for proper operation of a point-of-use device. The point-of-use indicator being in two-way communication with a status determining device that monitors the monitored device. The status determining device being capable of overriding a utility or energy management system curtailment of energy to the monitored device in response to receiving a signal from a means for overriding located in the point-of-use energy status indicator.

  • Patent number: 7521884
Abstract: A controller for an automatic transfer switch mechanism in an electrical distribution panel, which automatically determines motor phase by monitoring the back EMF voltage of the motor when no power is applied to the motor as defined by a pulse width modulation circuit. Phase comparisons of the voltage on the line and load sides of the transfer switch mechanism determine the position of the transfer switch mechanism.

  • Patent number: 7498535
Abstract: Apparatus for providing an accelerated linear motion to a circuit breaker operating handle during ON or OFF operation of the circuit breaker. The accelerated linear motion being applied to the operating handle at a particular point during its movement such that the moveable contacts of the circuit breaker are not delayed in their opening or closing due to slow movement of the circuit breaker operating handle.

  • Patent number: 7460348
Abstract: An overload detector/enunciator circuit. The overload detector/enunciator circuit detects an overloaded condition of a backup generator and provides a relatively immediate indication of the overload to occupants of the residence or facility receiving power from the backup generator such that correction of the overload condition can be effected before any damage to the generator or load devices can occur.
