  • Patent number: 4877538
Abstract: This invention relates to a new process and group of products that are useful in preventing nylon and wool fibers, including carpeting and upholstery, from being permanently stained. Fibers can be permanently stained by food colors contained in food spilled on the fiber. This new group of sulfomethylated phenol-formaldehyde or naphthol-formaldehyde and anionic surfactant compounds not only block the stain from the fiber but also minimize any yellowing or discoloration of the treated fibers during the application and during the subsequent exposure to sunlight or commonly used lightfastness testing equipment.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 4, 1988
Date of Patent: October 31, 1989
    Assignee: Crompton & Knowles Corporation
Inventors: Alexander S. Kirjanov, Michel A. Herlant
  • Patent number: 4865885
Abstract: This invention relates to a new process and group of products that are useful in preventing nylon and wool fibers, including carpeting and upholstery, from being permanently stained. Fibers can be permanently stained by food colors contained in foods spilled on the fiber. This new group of sulfonated phenol-formaldehyde or naphthol-formaldehyde and anionic surfactant compounds not only block the stain from the fiber but also minimizes any yellowing or discoloration of the treated fibers during the application and during the subsequent exposure to sunlight or commonly used lightfastness testing equipment.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 19, 1987
Date of Patent: September 12, 1989
    Assignee: Crompton & Knowles Corporation
Inventors: Michel A. Herlant, Alexander S. Kirjanov, Vincent W. Bannigan, Jr.
  • Patent number: 4857392
Abstract: This invention relates to a new composition and process that affords "total stain protection" finishing of polyamide products, i.e., carpet. This composition of non-ionic fluorocarbon and sulfomethylated phenolformaldehyde condensates provides protection against oil and waterborne soils and in addition, protects the treated substrate against food colors by means of a one-step application.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 15, 1988
Date of Patent: August 15, 1989
    Assignee: Crompton & Knowles Corporation
Inventors: Alexander S. Kirjanov, Dieter Hoecklin
  • Patent number: 4813970
Abstract: This invention is directed to a method for the lightfastness enhancement of dyed nylon fibers by applying at least 10 ppm copper in the form of an alkyl, aryl, or alkyl-aryl copper sulfonate before, during, or after dyeing the nylon fibers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 10, 1988
Date of Patent: March 21, 1989
    Assignee: Crompton & Knowles Corporation
Inventors: Alexander S. Kirjanov, Vincent W. Bannigan, Jr.
