  • Publication number: 20170133137
Abstract: A polymorphic surface may be provided by applying at least one magnetic field across a plurality of movable surface contour elements and selectively passing a current through the magnetic field(s) adjacent selected surface contour elements, with the current being perpendicular to the magnetic field. The current interacts with the magnetic field to generate a Lorentz force driving guided substantially linear motion of the respective surface contour element(s). The surface contour elements may be individually moveable and individually selectable for application of current to generate movement. The surface contour elements may be supported in position after removing the current. The current applied across each selected surface contour element may be varied to control the amount of guided substantially linear motion.

  • Patent number: 9518376
Abstract: Systems and methods for reporting a position of an air-over-hydraulic road treatment element use pneumatically activated switches triggered by pilot air for moving the road treatment element. Switch activation electrical signals are used to determine whether the road treatment element is in an engaged configuration or a disengaged configuration. If the switch activation electrical signals indicate the engaged configuration, an engaged configuration electric signal can be maintained until the switch activation electrical signals indicate the disengaged configuration. Conversely, if the switch activation electrical signals indicate the disengaged configuration, a disengaged configuration electric signal can be maintained until the switch activation electrical signals indicate the engaged configuration.

  • Patent number: 9491976
Abstract: Garment systems include complete, independently wearable garments like gloves, socks, scarves, earmuffs, headbands, hats and the like having attached thereto one or more single-use, air-activated exothermic heating packs sealed in a substantially airtight envelope, which can be opened when it is time for use. Thus, according to embodiments described herein, a user can simply open a package and put on the garment(s), and the exothermic heating pack(s) will be automatically activated by exposure to air, without the user having to place a heating pack inside a special pocket or the garment or fit a heating pack to their body before putting on the garment. The garments can be discarded after use for disposal or recycling.

  • Patent number: 8141045
Abstract: A method, system, and computer-usable medium for automatically identifying the source of copied software. A single identifying marker can be embedded in a common code base associated with different software application products. A suspected copy of a product can be fed to an automated tool, which extracts the type of object code, which is then scanned to determine the identifying marker. The automated tool can therefore identify the exact product and version of the suspected copy utilizing the identifying marker and the type of object code without the need for labor-intensive modification of the common code base and product-specific markers.

  • Patent number: 7899856
Abstract: A computer implemented method for determining when to change a representation type of at least one number stored in a memory of a data processing system. An operation is received in a processor of the data processing system. The operation references a number stored as a class of an object-oriented programming language. The number is stored as a first representation type. Responsive to the operation being biased towards the first representation type, a first counter is incremented. Responsive to the operation being biased towards a second representation type, a second counter is incremented. A counter reference is equal to a first value of the first counter subtracted from a second value of the second counter. Responsive to the counter reference exceeding a threshold number, representation of a subsequent number is changed from the first representation type to the second representation type.
