Patent number: 11227252Abstract: Techniques for token-based control of item transport operations are described. In some examples, a Transport Rules Broker (“TRB”) receives a selection of transport rules associated with a user. The transport rules control operations that are performed by a carrier when the carrier transports an item from, for, or to the user. The TRB generates a token that is associated with the transport rules and/or the user. In a typical scenario, the user provides the token to a merchant computing system when ordering an item. Having received the token, the merchant computing system provides it (directly or indirectly) to the carrier computing system. The token controls operations that are performed by the carrier when the carrier transports the item to the user or other destination. In particular, the token causes the carrier to transport the item in accordance with the selected rules that are associated with the token.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2018Date of Patent: January 18, 2022Assignee: The Descartes Systems Group Inc.Inventors: Rafael Zimberoff, Aliaksandr Hramadski, Alexander Uslontsev, Patricia Anderson, Stanislav Tugushev

Patent number: 10650341Abstract: Techniques for providing extended shipping options are described. In some embodiments, a user may specify extended shipping options that are not otherwise provided by or accessible via an existing shipment information specification user interface. In one embodiment, the user accesses a module configured to facilitate specification of extended shipping options and in response, provide an indicator of the specified extended shipping option, such as a tag or uniform resource identifier. The indicator of the extended shipping option is then incorporated into a user interface element, such as an address field, of the shipment information specification user interface. Once the user finalizes the order, the indicator of the extended shipping option is transmitted along with other shipment information items to a merchant and/or carrier system, where services specified by the extended shipping option are initiated.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 2017Date of Patent: May 12, 2020Assignee: The Descartes Systems Group Inc.Inventors: Rafael Zimberoff, Alexander Uslontsev, Stanislav Tugushev, Aliaksandr Hramadski, Avi Levin, Patricia Anderson

Patent number: 10410163Abstract: Example embodiments provide a Shipment Preparation System (“SPS”), which facilitates the preparation of shipments, such as by producing shipping labels. In one embodiment, the SPS is configured to receive shipment preparation information from a bar code or other machine-readable data block in a packing list. The shipment preparation information identifies a uniform resource identifier (“URI”) that identifies a code module that is remote from the SPS. The SPS determines the URI based on the shipment preparation information, such as by performing a local lookup or requesting the URI from a URI shortening service. The SPS then uses the URI to communicate with the code module in order to obtain information for the preparation of the shipment (e.g., obtaining a destination shipping address) and/or for transmission of information about the preparation of the shipment (e.g., posting an indication that a shipment is ready for pick up).Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 2014Date of Patent: September 10, 2019Assignee: The Descartes Systems Group Inc.Inventors: Rafael Zimberoff, Alexander Uslontsev, Stanislav Tugushev

In one embodiment, the SPS is configured to receive shipment preparation information from a bar code or other machine-readable data block in a packing list. The shipment preparation information identifies a uniform resource identifier (“URI”) that identifies a code module that is remote from the SPS. The SPS then communicates with the remote code module in order to obtain information for the preparation of the shipment and/or for transmission of information about the preparation of the shipment. Obtaining information for the preparation of the shipment may include receiving an address to use for printing a label. Transmitting information about the preparation of the shipment may include posting an indication that a label has been printed, a shipment is ready for pick up, or the like.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 2013Date of Patent: August 6, 2019Assignee: The Descartes Systems Group Inc.Inventors: Rafael Zimberoff, Alexander Uslontsev, Stanislav Tugushev

Patent number: 10318913Abstract: Methods and systems for supporting the production of shipping labels are provided. Example embodiments provide a Shipment Management System (“SMS”), which facilitates the production of shipping labels. The SMS may be configured to generate a shipping uniform resource identifier (“URI”) that identifies a shipping protocol and includes shipment information and post-back information. The shipping URI may be provided to a shipping label module configured to produce a shipping label in accordance with the shipping protocol by outputting a shipping label based on the shipment information, and automatically posting information about the producing of the shipping label to a code module identified by the post-back information. This abstract is provided to comply with rules requiring an abstract, and it is submitted with the intention that it will not be used to interpret or limit the scope or meaning of the claims.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 2014Date of Patent: June 11, 2019Assignee: The Descartes Systems Group Inc.Inventors: Alexander Uslontsev, Rafael Zimberoff, Stanislav Tugushev

In one embodiment, the SPS is configured to receive shipment preparation information from a bar code or other machine-readable data block in a packing list. The shipment preparation information identifies a uniform resource identifier (“URI”) that identifies a code module that is remote from the SPS. The shipment preparation information and/or the URI further includes an access token. The SPS then uses the URI to communicate with the code module in order to access shipment information (e.g., to read a read a shipping address, to store an indication that a shipment is ready for pick up). The code module restricts access to the shipment information based on the access token, such as by only allowing a limited number or duration of access via the token.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 2014Date of Patent: December 4, 2018Assignee: The Descartes Systems Group Inc.Inventors: Rafael Zimberoff, Alexander Uslontsev, Stanislav Tugushev
