    Abstract: A cushioning member for an article of footwear. The cushioning member is a flexible bladder having a fluidly interconnected heel chamber and forefoot chamber. The bladder is disposed above the sole and beneath the wearer's foot to provided added cushioning to the wearer. The bladder contains air at slightly above ambient pressure and can be formed by thermoforming or by welding two sheets of resilient, flexible material together. A connecting passage fluidly connects the heel chamber and the forefoot chamber. The connecting passage is narrow to control the flow of air between the two chambers.

    Abstract: A shaft for a golf club or other sporting equipment is disclosed, wherein the shaft is hollow and contains a wire or cable placed under tension therein, the wire being made of a superelastic material. The wire is connected at one end to a variation device such as a cam which varies the tension on the wire and thus the bending stiffness of the golf club. Because the wire is made of a superelastic material, for example Nitinol, it can reversibly elongate in response to pre-tensioning and dynamic stresses encountered during swinging the golf club, in order to counterbalance and accommodate, the stress encountered during normal use of the golf club, thus ensuring a long life and preventing damage to the golf club shaft.

The resilient insert also includes several chambers disposed in a forefoot portion of the resilient insert. These chambers are also fluidly interconnected to each other. A connecting passage connects the chambers in the heel portion and the chambers in the forefoot portion of the resilient insert. A bladder having a fluidly interconnected heel chamber and forefoot chamber is also inserted above the midsole to provided added cushioning to the wearer. In one embodiment, the resilient insert contains air at ambient pressure and the bladder contains air at slightly above ambient pressure.
