  • Patent number: 5001918
Abstract: A method for making blanks of a profile varying lengthwise, such as few-leaf springs involves placing a heated billet (1) on a sizing former (2) and feeding it to a deformation zone for forming a product of a preset profile which is carried out from the middle part (3) of the billet simultaneously towards its ends (4,5) thereof to form its runs by drawing or rolling. In an apparatus for carrying out this method, a forming means is provided with a constant-size groove (6) so that the billet runs are formed simultaneously during passage therethrough, or has a pair of carriages supporting non-driven rolls and moving in the opposite directions.

  • Patent number: 4982780
Abstract: The invention relates to the continuous casting of metals into moulds with movable walls. According to the method of producing metal filament, a fraction of molten metal is continuously fed onto an additional chill surface which is contiguous to a main chill surface and displaces relative thereto so that an additional metal filament is formed on the additional chill surface before being separated from this surface and coiled. The apparatus materializing the method incorporates a means (1) of forming metal filament an additional closed chill surface (4) whereof is coupled to an individual drive (9) and to a means (31) of coiling the additional metal filament (32) and is located next to and in contact with the main closed chill surface (2). A feeder (15) is disposed above a zone of contact between the main and additional chill surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4916535
Abstract: A method of non-destructive quality inspection of materials wherein a data transmitter and a material to be inspected are positioned very near to each other and set in motion in relation to each other. Information fed by the data transmitter is converted into a black-white or color image indicative of the quality of the material being inspected. Information fed by the data transmitter is kept in a memory and, as it is converted into a black-and-white or color image, it is periodically read out. The address of a memory location in the memory from which the readout cycle is to begin is assigned prior to the start of each readout cycle. A videomonitor realizing this method including a data transmitter mounted on a scanning device, a display unit connected to a control unit and an address unit including a recording counter series connected to a switch, as well as a readout counter connected to another input of the switch.

  • Patent number: 4770016
Abstract: A wire straightening method involves feeding a wire from a reel to a wire twisting and stretching mechanism, where by wire straightening elements having working surfaces in each pair of such mechanisms arranged in opposition to each other, the wire is twisted in two opposite directions to plastic deformation of the material of the wire, and simultaneously stretched to within elastic deformation of the wire material. The wire is then received by a take up reel.

  • Patent number: 4620432
Abstract: A deforming tool having two members of which one is made as a cylindrical roll, whereas the working surface of the other member is made curvilinear. A rod of microwire is fed into a gap between their working surfaces. A rotation drive and a drive for a reciprocating movement are mechanically coupled with the cylindrical roll.

  • Patent number: 4599880
Abstract: This invention relates to methods of making metal fibers and devices for effecting such methods.A method of making metal fibers from spherical particles (6) of a metal powder to be practiced by an apparatus for making such metal fibers is proposed, the method residing in that the spherical particles (6) of metal powder are deformed by rolling each such spherical particle (6) along the path of the process and stretching this particle (6) along its axis of rotation between a main roll (2) and an additional roll (3) of a deforming tool (1). The stretching is executed at a rate exceeding the rate of plastic flow of metal in elongation during reducing the diameter of the deformable spherical particle (6), the additional roll (3) being used as a stretching device. The ready metal fibers (7) are then discharged.

  • Patent number: 4545229
Abstract: The invention relates to the rolling and drawing of metals. The microwire manufacturing method according to the invention is characterized in that a microwire blank (1) is rolled during the drawing process in opposite directions relative to the drawing axis (B--B). The blank (1) is rolled over the same distance equal to at least one half of its circumference. The method is carried out with the aid of a device comprising a body (3), a die (4) and a mechanism for drawing wire through the die (4). The die (4) is composed of two parts (5 and 6) which interact with the blank (1) as the latter is drawn between them. Each of the die parts (5 and 6) has a working surface (8). According to the invention, the parts (5 and 6) of the die (4) are secured in the body (3) so that they can be set in synchronized reciprocating motion in parallel planes. The working surfaces (8) of both parts ( 5 and 6) of the die (4) are flat and parallel with each other and the drawing axis (B--B).
