  • Publication number: 20200031230
Abstract: A vehicle may include a display for producing a hologram. The display may include a backlight unit for showing visual content. The display may include an instrument cluster. The instrument cluster may include one or more gauges, such as one or more graphical gauges, analog gauges, or hybrid gauges. The visual content may be in addition to and separate from the hologram. The display may include an illumination frame positioned in front of the backlight unit. The illumination frame may include one or more light elements. The display may include a holographic layer positioned in front of the backlight unit. The holographic layer may include a plurality of holographic layers. The one or more light elements may be configured to emit light through the holographic layer to produce the hologram.

  • Publication number: 20190369392
Abstract: The present invention relates to a picture generation unit for a head-up display. The picture generation unit comprises an array of light-sources for emitting beams of light, the light sources being arranged in a matrix of Ly rows and Lx columns; an array of collimation lenses for receiving said emitted beams of light, the collimation lenses being arranged in a matrix of Ly rows and Lx columns; a micro lens array for receiving light from the collimation lenses and providing a focused light output, the micro lens array arranged in a matrix of Fy rows and Fx columns, wherein Fx>2·Lx and Fy>2·Ly; a field lens array for receiving said light from the micro lens array and providing a collimated light output, the field lens array arranged in a matrix of Lx rows and Ly columns; and an image generation unit for receiving said collimated light output.

  • Publication number: 20190287467
Abstract: A method for controlling a display arrangement controls the quality of representation of information on the display and heating of the display. In the event of a maximum permitted temperature being reached or exceeded in an area of the display, a light source is reduced in brightness or is switched off in the affected area. An adaptation of a content item to be represented on the display of the display arrangement is made to those areas in which no reduction in the brightness and/or no switching-off of the associated light source take place.

  • Patent number: 10310323
Abstract: A display cluster having an active state and an inactive state includes a front cover with an outer surface facing outwardly toward a viewer and an inner surface opposite the outer surface. An active display region with a display screen to generate an image and a first backlight may be surrounded by a peripheral region including a second backlight. One or more of the backlights may illuminate with the display cluster in the active state. A partial mirror may be disposed on the inner surface of the front cover to allow the display light from the active display region to pass outwardly therethrough and to block incident light from passing therethrough. The partial mirror may prevent reflections from one or more structures located therebeyond, away from the viewer, and may thereby present a uniform appearance between the active display region and the peripheral region with the display cluster in the inactive state.

  • Patent number: 8389927
Abstract: An optical arrangement has a laser configured to emit a laser beam, an amplitude mask and a focusing element. The amplitude mask is disposed between the laser and the focusing element in a path of the laser beam such that the laser beam hits the amplitude mask before being modified by the focusing element so as to direct the laser beam to a focal point within a photosensitive material.
