  • Patent number: 8274952
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of adjusting transmission power on a downlink radio channel in a communication system comprising a user equipment and a base station. In the method uplink power headroom is determined by dividing a maximum transmission power of the user equipment by a transmission power of a control channel of the user equipment and the determined uplink power headroom value is sent to the base station. Then uplink path loss estimate is determined between the user equipment and the base station based on the uplink power headroom. Then an estimate for the downlink path loss is derived and finally the transmission power of the downlink radio channel is adjusted taking into account the downlink path loss estimate.

  • Patent number: 8116353
Abstract: A spread spectrum modulator converts input sequences composed of digital symbols into n?2 spread-spectrum sequences. The spread spectrum modulator can generate spreading code and can combine the spreading code with the input sequences to produce the n spread spectrum sequences for transmission from n respective antennas of a radio transmitter. Each spread spectrum sequence corresponds to a sum of at least two contributions mutually shifted by a time substantially less than the duration of a symbol, each contribution being the product of a version of one of the n input sequences times the spreading code.

  • Patent number: 7613230
Abstract: In a spread spectrum digital radio communication receiver, a propagation profile of a propagation channel between a sender and the receiver, including at least one propagation path associated with a reception energy, is determined, data relating to an energy distribution in the propagation profile are measured, and information symbols carried by a signal received originating from the sender over the propagation channel are estimated, by applying to the signal a processing taking into account a predetermined maximum number of propagation paths, the propagation paths taken into account being chosen according to a criterion selected from several criteria as a function of the measured data relating to the energy distribution in the propagation profile.

  • Patent number: 7184465
Abstract: A signal received by a base station is fed to a set of filters matched to spreading codes allocated to pilot channels originating from radio terminals. The outputs from the matched filters are processed so as to estimate parameters comprising, for each channel, eigenvectors representing propagation paths associated with respective amplitudes of reception along these paths. The processing of the output signals from the matched filters comprises an estimation of parameters for a first channel received with a fairly high power by the base station, a correction of the output from the matched filter of a second channel having less energy, taking account of at least one of the eigenvectors of the first channel, and an estimation of parameters for this second channel on the basis of the modified output from said matched filter.

  • Publication number: 20070030927
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for the correction of Doppler frequency offset in a terrestrial wireless communications system are described, comprising: determining a first estimation of frequency offset f1 in a received signal over a first time period of the received signal; determining a second estimation of frequency offset f2 in a received signal over a longer time period of the received signal; and determining an overall frequency offset fO based on both the first and second estimations. The determined offset may be applied to the received signal in conventional ways.

  • Publication number: 20070025425
Abstract: A spread_spectrum modulator converts input sequences composed of digital symbols into n?2 spread-spectrum sequences. It comprises a spreading code generator and means of combining the spreading code with the input sequences so as to produce the n spread_spectrum sequences for transmission from n respective antennas of a radio transmitter. Each spread_spectrum sequence corresponds to a sum of at least two contributions mutually shifted by a time substantially less than the duration of a symbol, each contribution being the product of a version of one of the n input sequences times the spreading code.

  • Patent number: 7167529
Abstract: The received radio signal includes contributions from a plurality of channels multiplexed by respective spreading codes. A matched filter receiver is allocated to each multiplexed channel to estimate an impulse response of the channel and to provide first soft estimates of symbols transmitted on the channel. The first soft estimates provided by the matched filter receivers are processed to obtain a corrected soft estimate of at least one symbol transmitted on a channel. That processing includes subtracting from the first soft estimate of the symbol at least one term equal to the product of a decision value assigned to another symbol transmitted on another channel, determined from a soft estimate obtained previously for said other transmitted symbol, and a correlation between two generalized codes associated respectively with said symbol and with said other symbol.

  • Publication number: 20060179387
Abstract: A method of selecting a retransmission mode, for the transmission of data which have been first transmitted in acknowledged mode between a transmitter unit and a receiver unit over an interface, and for which no positive acknowledgement of said first transmission has been received at the transmitter unit, the data being processed according to an error correcting encoding scheme prior to transmission over the interface, is provided. The number of bits to be encoded and the number of bits to be sent over the interface are compared, and a type of retransmission mode for the retransmission of the first transmitted data is determined.

  • Patent number: 6925110
Abstract: A digital signal available at the output of a filter matched to a spreading code in a spread spectrum receiver comprises successive blocks each corresponding to a sequence of symbols sent by a transmitter. Statistical parameters representing a channel having at least one propagation path between the transmitter and the receiver are estimated, and each block of the digital signal is processed so as to estimate instantaneous amplitudes of reception of the symbols of the corresponding sequence sent by the transmitter. The processing of a block comprises the prior estimation of information symbols of the corresponding sequence, then the estimation of the instantaneous amplitudes as a function of the digital signal of the block, of the estimated statistical parameters, of the symbols of the sequence which are known a priori and of the previously estimated symbols.

  • Publication number: 20040223537
Abstract: The signal received comprises contributions from several channels multiplexed by respective spreading codes. After having estimated response parameters of the channels, soft estimates of the symbols transmitted are calculated. These symbols are then apportioned between a first set of symbols satisfying a confidence criterion applied to the calculated soft estimates and a second set of symbols not satisfying this criterion. A modified signal is determined by subtracting estimated contributions corresponding to the symbols of the first set from the signal received. New soft estimates of the symbols of the second set only are calculated, as a function of the modified signal and of the estimated response parameters, and this may be done with a detection algorithm of more complex nature, in particular a multi-user algorithm, by virtue of the size reduction performed by restricting oneself to the symbols of the second set.

  • Publication number: 20030091100
Abstract: The received radio signal comprises contributions from channels multiplexed by spread codes. A receiver with adapted filter (41, 42, , 4U) is assigned to each multiplexed channel to estimate the channel pulse response and determine first flexible estimations of a block of bits transmitted on the channel. In output of the receivers with adapted filters, the first flexible estimations are re-processed so as to take into account the inter-symbol interference and the interference caused by the other channels. The contributions of said interfering channels are evaluated on the basis of decisions taken on the values of the symbols and autocorrelation and intercorrelation values of convoluted spread codes with the estimated pulse responses of the channels.
