  • Patent number: 4702873
Abstract: A method of molding the insulating covering of an organic electrical insulator comprising a long central rod (3) having end fittings (5, 6). Retractable supports (11, 12, 21, 22) are disposed at regular intervals along an injection mold for the covering. The covering is injected, and at the end of injection, prior to vulcanization, the supports are retracted. The voids left in the mold (1, 2) by the supports are instantly filled by the injected material. Protective sleeves (24, 25) are interposed between the rod and the said supports.

  • Patent number: 4491687
Abstract: A composite type stay insulator comprises a central mandrel (4) made of insulating foam and having its ends (5) glued at (6) to two metal end pieces (1). The glue may be optionally conductive or semiconductive. A skein winding (8) of insulating resin-impregnated fibers is made around the end piece and mandrel assembly to transmit traction forces from a shoulder (7) on one of the end pieces to a corresponding shoulder on the other. The winding is then covered with a resilient insulating covering (9) which is optionally fitted with fins.

  • Patent number: 4476081
Abstract: The ends of a fiber-reinforced resin rod are inserted through sealing grommets into cavities of respective end fittings; the end fittings of the assembly are placed in accurately spaced end moulds; the rod is encased in intermediate half shells; an insulator covering is moulded around the rod by filling the half shells; and the end fittings are then fixed to the rod by embedding or swaging.

  • Patent number: 4440975
Abstract: An electrical insulator component comprises a one-piece block of moulded fins (11, 12, 13) disposed around an insulating core (10). The surface of the block of fins includes a moulding line (21, 22, 23) and said moulding line has arcuately displaced segments in that the portion 22 extends circumferentially while the portions 21 and 23 extend longitudinally but in different planes. The net result is that dirt building up along the join line does not form a continuous straight-line low resistance path for leakage currents.

  • Patent number: 4435615
Abstract: An insulator core including a rod (20) fitted with a sheath (12) and with insulating fins (2,3) is fixed in a metal cap (10,10') by embedding the end (1) of the rod (20) in an organic embedding substance (9) in a thimble (5,5'), which has undercut zones and a flange (7) which is bonded or crimped to the sheath in a sealed manner, and embedding the thimble (5,5') in the cap (10,10') using a cheap inorganic cement (11). The thimble is coated with an anti-adhesive layer (27) which does not adhere to the embedding cement.

  • Patent number: 4414429
Abstract: An insulator core made of an organic substance and including a central rod (1) fitted with an insulating covering (4) is fixed in a metal cap (8) which is not machined. The end of the rod has undercut zones such as circumferential channels (10) or double cones (9), and a ductile metal cup (5) whose edges are made integral with the insulating covering (4) in a sealed manner is crimped on the rod. The cup (5) is itself embedded in the cap (8) by means of an organic cement or embedding substance (7) which is reinforced.
