  • Patent number: 8778409
Abstract: A composition, system and method for modifying an olfactory response to an odorant is disclosed. In some embodiments, the composition includes crystalline metal nanoparticles dispersed in an aqueous medium. The composition is applied to olfactory tissues using a suitable applicator or dispenser. The metal nanoparticles are believed to interact with a G-protein coupled to receptor located in the cilia to moderate (enhance or reduce) sensitivity or ability to smell particular odorants. In accordance with an embodiment of the invention, the composition includes one or more odorants.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 21, 2012
Date of Patent: July 15, 2014
    Assignee: Auburn University
Inventors: Vitaly J. Vodyanoy, Lewis G. Scharpf, Alexandre Samoylov, Nilmini Viswaprakash, Ludmila Petrovna Globa, Edward E. Morrison

  • Publication number: 20070128642
Abstract: Compositions and methods for the isolation and manipulation of misfolded, or partially misfolded, proteins present in blood and other biological materials are provided. In one aspect of the invention, the compositions, hereinafter termed “proteons” are comprised of misfolded proteins. Also provided are compositions and methods for the isolation and manipulation of proteon nucleation centers (PNCs) upon which the proteons of the present in blood and other biological materials form. In another aspect of the invention, the PNCs are comprised of metallic nanoclusters.

  • Publication number: 20070122799
Abstract: Compositions and methods for the isolation and manipulation of misfolded, or partially misfolded, proteins present in blood and other biological materials are provided. In one aspect of the invention, the compositions, hereinafter termed “proteons” are misfolded or partially misfolded proteins surrounding a metallic nanocluster, termed “proteon nucleation center” (PNC). Also provided are compositions and methods for the isolation and manipulation of proteon nucleation centers (PNCs) upon which the proteons of the present in blood and other biological materials form.

  • Publication number: 20050137136
Abstract: Compositions and methods for binding to Salmonella bacteria are provided. The compositions comprise peptide sequences which bind to Salmonella bacteria with high specificity. The compositions are useful in identification, detection, and isolation of Salmonella bacteria. The compositions are also useful for the delivery of a wide variety of compounds to Salmonella bacteria or their vicinity. Such compounds include nucleotides, proteins (including, for example, toxins), liposomes, and small molecule pharmaceuticals. The compositions are also useful in identifying bacterial cell surface markers to which the compositions bind.
