  • Publication number: 20210131273
Abstract: A system and method for determining near-wellbore fracture characteristics of an isolated portion of a hydraulically fractured well are provided. A valve located in a string extending to the isolated portion of the well is utilized to reduce the wellbore storage effects of fluid in the string on pressure measurements within the isolated zone of the wellbore.

  • Patent number: 10611952
Abstract: A method to provide fractures in a formation includes providing a wellbore in the formation and providing a casing in the wellbore. The method also includes providing communication between an inside of the casing and the formation and initiating a fracture from the communication between the inside of the casing and the subterranean formation. The method further includes propagating the fracture with a fluid comprising mortar slurry. Prior to propagating the fracture with a fluid comprising mortar slurry, a fluid comprising acid is injected into the formation through the communication between the inside of the casing and the formation.

  • Publication number: 20150083405
Abstract: A method including providing sensors in injection and observation wells; increasing pressure within the injection well until a fracture extends from an initiation location through a portion of a subterranean formation to an intersection location in the observation well, wherein increasing pressure within the injection well comprises introducing fluid into the injection well; obtaining a measurement indicative of fracture initiation from the first sensor; determining a height of the fracture at the injection well; obtaining a measurement indicative of fracture intersection from the second sensor; determining a volume of fluid introduced between the fracture initiation and the fracture intersection; determining a distance between the initiation location and the intersection location; determining a time lapse between the fracture initiation and the fracture intersection; and using the determined values, calculating a hydraulic fracturing characteristic.
