  • Patent number: 7616704
Abstract: A multicarrier transmitter assigns for each of a plurality of spatial channels, sets of the constellation symbols to subcarriers of each subchannel. Constellation symbol assignments to the subchannels are circularly rotated among some of the spatial channels so that subchannels use different sets of subcarriers for each spatial channel for enhanced frequency diversity.

  • Publication number: 20090257454
Abstract: A multi-antenna transmitter includes an adaptive bit interleaver for orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) communications. The adaptive bit interleaver permutes a variable number of coded bits per OFDM symbol (Ncbps). The variable number of coded bits is calculated based on individual subcarrier modulation assignments for orthogonal subcarriers. The interleaver matrix size may be based on the variable number of coded bits per OFDM symbol and the number of subchannels. The interleaver may add padding bits to the interleaver matrix to fill any remaining positions, and after performing an interleaving operation, the interleaver may prune the padding bits to provide a sequence of interleaved bits for subsequent modulation on the orthogonal subcarriers and transmission by more than one antenna. The transmitter may transmit the OFDM symbol in accordance with an IEEE 802.16 standard.

  • Patent number: 7570696
Abstract: A multicarrier receiver generates a quantized transmit beamformer matrix ({tilde over (V)}) for each subcarrier of a multicarrier communication channel for use by a multicarrier transmitting station. The multicarrier receiver applies a corrected receiver beamformer matrix (?H) to received subcarriers signals generated by signals received from the transmitting station.

  • Patent number: 7570695
Abstract: An adaptive interleaver for wideband orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) communications permutes a variable number of coded bits per OFDM symbol (Ncbps). The variable number of coded bits is calculated based on individual subcarrier modulation assignments for orthogonal subcarriers of a wideband channel. The interleaver matrix size may be based on the variable number of coded bits per OFDM symbol and the number of subchannels that comprise the wideband channel. The interleaver may add padding bits to the interleaver matrix to fill any remaining positions, and after performing an interleaving operation, the interleaver may prune the padding bits to provide a sequence of interleaved bits for subsequent modulation on the orthogonal subcarriers. A receiver may include an adaptive deinterleaver to reverse the process.

  • Patent number: 7570953
Abstract: Transmission parameters for a multicarrier communication channel are selected by setting a power level for each subcarrier of an active set of subcarriers, and calculating the channel capacity based on the power levels and effective noise powers. The number of active subcarriers of the set is decreased, the power levels are reset and the channel capacity is recalculated until a final set of active subcarriers result that provide the highest channel capacity.

  • Patent number: 7333556
Abstract: A data rate is selected for subcarriers of each frequency and spatial channel of a slowly varying frequency selective multicarrier channel to provide uniform bit loading (UBL) for faster link adaptation. Signal to noise ratios (SNRs) for subcarriers of the multicarrier communication channel may be calculated from channel state information and a transmit power level. A throughput may be estimated for the data rates from the SNRs and one of the data rates may be selected based on the estimated throughputs.
