  • Publication number: 20240005122
Abstract: An RFID tag is described with an antenna and a passive reflector. In an example, the RFID tag has a dielectric substrate. A first conductive pattern is on the dielectric substrate to form an antenna. An RFID integrated circuit (IC) chip is on the dielectric substrate having an antenna port electrically coupled to the antenna, the antenna port being configured to provide RF energy from a reader to the RFID IC chip through the antenna, the RFID IC chip being configured to provide a response to the reader through the antenna. A second conductive pattern is on the dielectric substrate beside the antenna in the form of a second dipole to form a passive reflector that is not electrically coupled to the antenna port, the passive reflectors being configured to reflect RF energy from the reader away from the antenna.

  • Patent number: 10783922
Abstract: An apparatus and associated method that contemplate a data storage disc and a motor supporting the disc in rotation. Control circuitry operates to spin up the disc drive by accelerating the motor to a steady state speed by: beginning the spin up by energizing the motor with a primary power; comparing an amount of auxiliary power that is available from a battery to a predefined threshold; and before the motor is accelerated to the steady state speed and if the threshold comparison is favorable, then boosting the primary power by discharging the battery for a predetermined boost interval.

  • Patent number: 9324020
Abstract: A device is provided for use with a radio frequency identification (RFID) chip that receives and modulates a radio frequency (RF) signal. A substrate of the device includes a first short dipole antenna structure that backscatters a received RF signal to produce a first radiation pattern having nulls. A set of connection pads couple the RF signal from the antenna to a frontend transmitter circuit of the RFID chip. A second antenna structure backscatters the received RF signal by electromagnetic coupling to the first antenna structure and produces a second radiation pattern that complements the nulls in the first radiation pattern.

  • Patent number: 8149537
Abstract: A writer comprises a main pole, a write gap and a write shield. The main pole has a main pole tip for emitting magnetic flux. The write gap is adjacent the main pole tip along a center axis of the writer. The write shield is spaced from the main pole tip by the write gap. The write shield comprises a first component located above the main pole tip along the center axis and a second component having different magnetic properties from the first component. The second component extends perpendicularly to the center axis from opposing sides of the first component.
