  • Patent number: 9492278
Abstract: A covering for delivering a substance or material to a surgical site is provided. The covering, with substance provided therein, may be referred to as a delivery system. Generally, the covering may be a single or multi-compartment structure capable of at least partially retaining a substance provided therein until the covering is placed at a surgical site. Upon placement, the covering may facilitate transfer of the substance or surrounding materials. For example, the substance may be released (actively or passively) to the surgical site. • Patent number: 8114159
Abstract: A protective system for facilitating revision surgery includes a protective pad with a base portion and an overlying portion spaced apart from the base. A fluid pocket is formed between the base portion; and the overlying portion. The protective system prevents formation of adhesions or scar tissue in the area occupied by the protective pad. Thus a clean plane is obtained during revision surgery on the patient through an incision in the fluid pocket.

  • Publication number: 20100082072
Abstract: Bone anchors and related methods for their use are described. The inventive anchor is suitable for placement in bone and for use in orthopedic surgery and dentistry. The bone anchor can be made from a bone/polymer or bone substitute/polymer composite, and can provide a firm and secure base for attaching a fastening device. The bone anchor can be used in various orthopedic and dental procedures including spinal surgery, where normal, cancellous, cortical, diseased or osteoporotic bone is present. The bone anchor can be resorbed and/or replaced with native bone tissue over a period of time. In certain embodiments, the bone anchor is made malleable or flowable and formed in situ or in vivo.

  • Publication number: 20080300684
Abstract: An implant system delivers bone morphogenic protein (BMP) and other substances to the human body. The implant system includes an intake module for receiving the BMP and other substances. The intake module includes a reservoir implanted at least partially in the body. The implant system includes a delivery module implanted in the human body and configured to administer the BMP and other substances. The delivery module is connected to the intake module through one or more tubes implanted in the human body. The tubes transport the BMP and other substances from the intake module to the delivery module.

  • Publication number: 20030170006
Abstract: The invention includes a versatile video player application, system and method for playing video files stored on a removable CD. The invention permits a user computer to play video files even though the user computer may not have a specified video enhancer or video renderer installed in its operating system or even though the specified video enhancer or video renderer is improperly installed. As it does not require installation of files into the user computer operating system, the video player does not require IT intervention in local networks where the user's operating activities are restricted, thus posing no compromise of security on the users system nor the network the system resides on. The invention provides a compact disc comprising at least one video file to be played, a video player application, at least one optional target content file, and at least one video player application extension adapted to utilize a video renderer application extension in the OS of the user computer.

  • Patent number: 6475219
Abstract: A flexible shield or apron formed of a biocompatible material is placed between adjacent vertebral bodies and the vessels and body structure anterior of the spine subsequent to the performance of an anterior spinal surgical procedure. The apron is secured to adjacent vertebral bodies by conventional bone fasteners and is provided with a pleat to allow stretching as a consequence of movement between vertebral bodies to which the apron is connected. The apron may be retracted together with vessels it is shielding during a revision surgical procedure while minimizing risks associated with the formation of adhesions or scar tissue.

  • Patent number: 6039763
Abstract: The artificial spinal disc of the invention is intended to articulate in a manner resembling a human knee articulation. The artificial spinal disc includes two plates each having a planar outer surface and an articulating inner surface. The planar outer surfaces contact adjacent inferior and superior surfaces of two adjacent vertebrae having the spinal disc implanted therebetween. The planar surfaces of the plates are affixed to the adjacent vertebrae. The articulating surfaces of the artificial spinal disc will be generally bimodal-shaped such that a first articulating surface will have two convex shaped articulating portions and the second articulating surface will have two concave shaped articulating portions. The concave and convex shaped portions of the respective plates will be generally complementary. The articulation of the artificial spinal disc will generally resemble that of a human knee.
