Abstract: The apparatus of the present invention provides onboard detection systems such as automotive radars the ability to react to difficult aspect ratio targets at an off angle to the road greatly increasing the ability of the operator of a vehicle to avoid a collision. The apparatus of the present invention is co-located with the difficult aspect ratio target, either as a mounted device or as an item worn by a person. The apparatus of the present invention is active in that when an incoming radar signal impinges on the apparatus a return signal is sent that contains information identifying the target thereby eliminating the problem of signal ambiguity. Advantageously, the apparatus of the present invention can be adapted to a number of mounting schemes. Examples include mounting the apparatus to the frame of a bicycle, the fender of a motorized mobility device, imbedded into a motorized mobility device, imbedded into a wearable electronic device or attached to the clothing of a cyclist or pedestrian.
