  • Patent number: 8387761
Abstract: A disc brake for a motor vehicle is provided. The disc brake includes a brake disc, a brake caliper configured to straddle the brake disc, a tappet carried by the brake caliper and arranged to push a brake pad against the brake disc, and a bellows provided between the brake caliper and the tappet to seal a gap between the brake caliper and the tappet. A layer of flexible thermal insulation material may be provided between the bellows and the tappet. The layer of flexible thermal insulation material is configured to protect an outer surface of the bellows facing the brake pad from exposure to heat. Alternatively, the bellows may include a layer of flexible thermal insulation material on which an elastomer layer is formed. The layer of flexible thermal insulation material is configured to face the brake pad.

  • Publication number: 20090000882
Abstract: A guide pin for a sliding disc brake caliper and a carrier for the caliper are attached together by generating a difference in temperatures between a section of the guide pin and a section of the carrier. The section of the guide pin is then inserted into an aperture defined in the section of the carrier. Upon achieving or restoring thermal equilibrium between the guide pin and carrier sections, contact pressure between the section of the guide pin and a surface of the aperture is produced so as to secure the guide pin to the carrier and resist separation of the guide pin from the carrier.

  • Publication number: 20080257657
Abstract: A warning system is adapted to indicate disc brake and wheel component incompatibility. The system includes an element having a section that is disposed so as to extend between a non-rotating disc brake component and a rotating contour of the wheel component at a location of minimum clearance between the non-rotating disc brake component and the wheel component. Optionally, the warning system defines part of a brake pad wear indication device.

  • Publication number: 20070023243
Abstract: A combined pneumatic cylinder and a corresponding control method are characterized in that a spring for realizing the parking brake function is directly placed inside one of two pressure chambers and, to be precise, inside the pressure chamber that is designed for effecting service brakings by increasing pressure. The service brake function as well as the parking brake function can be realized by means of only two pressure chambers and the spring.

  • Publication number: 20060266598
Abstract: A method for cotrolling a disk brake comprising a caliper which overlaps a brake disk, brake linings arranged on both sides of the brake disk, a tensing device for tensing the disk brake and an adjustment system which is driven by an electric motor and which can be controlled by means of a control device. The inventive method consists of the following steps: a) determination of the braking power occurring during braking; b) comparison of the determined braking power with a braking power threshold value; c) control of the adjustment system in order to carry out adjustment if the braking power threshold is exceeded.

  • Patent number: 7114597
Abstract: A spring storage cylinder, for the generation of braking forces for the auxiliary and parking brake effect, comprises a piston, arranged in a housing, which may be displaced for the operation of a brake lever. The piston is pretensioned against the brake lever by a spring. A release spindle is provided, by which the piston may be moved from an extended position, operating the brake lever, in the braking position, against the force of a spring into a withdrawn position, releasing the brake. A primary chamber is provided in the housing, pressurized to a certain pressure, in which, when an operating pressure is exceeded, the piston is moved into the withdrawn position against the pressure of the spring. At least one contact switch is provided to determine the position of the piston in the housing. The operating status of the spring storage cylinder may be monitored by the contact switch(es), the storage function and the release function controlled and any damage to the storage spring determined.

  • Patent number: 6477939
Abstract: The invention relates to a pressure spring arrangement for brake cylinders, especially of the type installed in commercial vehicles. When using a pressure spring which comprises at least one retracted end, the facing support for the final winding is configured such that when the spring tip of the final winding is applied, a degree of freedom of the deformation exists for the final winding of the pressure spring which exists with a negative angle of incidence, i.e. with an inclination direction contrary to the angle of inclination of the springy windings of the pressure spring. When the final winding of the pressure spring emerges into the adjacent spring winding and during simultaneous deformation along the negative angle of incidence, the pressure spring absorbs additional energy which can be converted into increased spring action during a lifting movement. A roll-off ramp advantageously predetermines the degree of freedom of the deformability of the final winding along a negative angle of incidence.
