    Abstract: Coextruded films having an one inner core layer of a polyamide homopolymer or copolymer, and an outer layer on each side of the polyamide core of a blend of a polyolefin homopolymer or copolymer and an adhesive composition which comprises a polyolefin having at least one functional moiety of an unsaturated carboxylic acid and/or anhydride thereof. The coextruded films are typically prepared by a blown film technique. Such structures are suitable for use as release and barrier films for sheet molding and other reinforced plastic applications.

    Abstract: A food package comprising a two piece sealed package including metal free container and peelable lid portions which are readily separable from each other. The container is cup shaped and has a top opening and a substantially flat peripheral rim around the opening. The lid comprises a composite film having a shape which conforms to the shape of the opening and is attached to the rim. The film has a first outer polyamide or polyolefin layer attached to an inner layer of either an ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer or a blend of a polyamide with an ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer, which is attached to a second outer polyamide or polyolefin layer. The metal free packaged product allows the detection of metal contaminants inadvertently mixed with the food by scanning the product in the container to determine the presence of metal contaminants in the container.

    Abstract: The present invention provides biaxially oriented multilayer fluoropolymer films. They are produced by coextruding or laminating films having at least one layer of a fluoropolymer, at least one layer of a thermoplastic homopolymer or copolymer and an intermediate adhesive layer which is preferably a polyolefin having at least one functional moiety of an unsaturated carboxylic acid or anhydride thereof. With this structure the thermoplastic layer allows the fluoropolymer layer to be biaxially stretched many times its original length. A high orientation ratio for the fluoropolymer film increases the mechanical strength, toughness, and water vapor barrier properties of the film while using a thinner gauge fluoropolymer film. Coextrusion processing can be done at higher temperatures, i.e. in the range of from at about 280.degree. C. to about 400.degree. C. These temperatures allow films to be produced in the absence of polymer degradation and film melt fracture.

    Abstract: Multilayered films produced by coextruding or laminating films comprised of at least one layer of polymethylpentene, at least one layer of a polyamide and an intermediate polymeric adhesive layer. The polyamide layer allows the polymethylpentene layer to be stretched up to 6 times its original length. Such a high orientation ratio for the mulitlayered film increases the mechanical strength and toughness properties of the film. The mulitlayered films are suitable for use as release films for high temperature composite applications such as printed circuit boards.

    Abstract: The present invention is a film laminate comprising a polyamide layer, preferably polyepsiloncaprolactam, and a layer of ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer. The polyamide layer and ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer layer are preferably adjacent layers. The laminate is expanded to an area of less than 4 times the original area. Preferably, the laminate is drawn to a draw ratio of from 1.5:1 to 4:1 in at least one direction. Preferred laminates have outer layers of polyepsiloncaprolactam and at least one inner layer of ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer adjacent to at least one layer of polyepsiloncaprolactam. Preferably, the laminate is a multilayer coextrusion.
