  • Patent number: 6451100
Abstract: Aqueous carbon black dispersions contain carbon black and cationic surfactants in addition to water. The aqueous carbon black dispersions are produced by dispersing the carbon black and other components in water with bead mills, ultrasonic mills or an Ultra Turrax mixer. The dispersions can be used to produce inks, lacquers and printing inks.

  • Patent number: 5859120
Abstract: Carbon blacks containing silicon and a process for manufacturing them. The carbon blacks containing silicon are suitable as reinforcing carbon blacks for rubber mixtures and give the latter viscoelastic properties such as reduced rolling resistance in tires. At the same time, the wet traction is even improved in the process.

  • Patent number: 5292708
Abstract: A method of producing activated carbon from lignite, in which pit-wet lignite is heated to high temperatures. The invention further describes the heating of the lignite in the presence of additional water vapor. The invention also contemplates the addition of potassium ions to the lignite, in the form of potassium hydroxide.

  • Patent number: 4987116
Abstract: Described is a method for preparing a coarse-pored formed carbon from charcoal dust, charcoal tar and sodium hydroxide solution. These ingredients are mixed, kneaded, shaped and low-tempeature carbonized in as low-oxygen atmosphere as possible at temperatures of 300 to 900.degree. C. The product is further activated with water vapor and/or carbon dioxide at temperature of 700 to 1200.degree. C. In the initial mixture, sodium hydroxide is added in amounts of 5.0 to 15.0 % by weight relative to the amount of charcoal dust.

  • Patent number: 4642304
Abstract: Activated carbon is produced from lignite coke. It is characterized by the product of the molasses number times the iodine number divided by 1000 being 350 to 1000 and/or the product of the molasses number times the methylene blue number divided by 10 being 500 to 1200. It is produced by adding aqueous alkali or alkaline earth carbonate solution and/or aqueous alkali or alkaline earth hydroxide solution by means of lance during the steam activation of lignite coke in a rotating tube.
