  • Patent number: 4247146
Abstract: This chair comprises a chair base having chair side arms on which a body supporting means is tiltably mounted. The chair is constructed to allow the body supporting means to tilt on said base from upright position to said T.V. and fully reclined positions, while the upper end of the backrest portion of said body supporting means, retains its spacing relative to a wall of the room in which the chair is located, while the chair side arms move bodily forwardly away from said wall. The chair arms are swingably mounted on floor engaging base plates, in such manner that the body supporting means can tilt from upright position to fully reclined position, while the chair side arms move forwardly substantially horizontally, being guided by the base plates without side to side movement, first from a rear position of the chair side arms to a forward position projecting forwardly of the base plates, as the body supporting means tilts from upright position to T.V.

  • Patent number: 4194783
Abstract: This invention adds a stabilizing system to the chair disclosed in our copending application Ser. No. 618,954, filed Oct. 2, 1975, and minimizes swaying side to side, and thereby maintaining the rigidity of the chair. The stabilizing system comprises a pair of paralleled base plates attached to front and rear cross-rails supported on the floor. Arm mounting members are attached to the left and right side arms of the chair, respectively. Friction reducing buttons on said arm mounting members movably contact said base plates. At least one of said buttons is adjustable to ensure retaining said chair against swaying sideways. A button at each side of the chair, is attached to one link of the arm rest suspension linkage, to slidably contact another link of the suspension linkage, to also aid in preventing side sway of the chair. The cross-rails extend beyond the base plates and beyond the inner surfaces of the side arms of the chair.

  • Patent number: 3989298
Abstract: The seating furniture comprises a seat part and a back part disconnectably connected thereto in condition for use and to allow the furniture to be packed more compactly by the manufacturer for shipment to the retailer with the back part disconnected from the seat part and overlying the seat part. The furniture may be either a club chair or sofa or a rester or a lounger. The hardware comprises a mounting member connected to one of said furniture parts slidably received in a slot or channel or passage in a channel forming member connected to the other of said furniture parts, and having a resilient tongue adapted to snap into a hole in said mounting member, to limit relative sliding movement between said mounting member and channel forming member to hold said furniture parts in assembled condition for display or use. Said furniture parts can thus be assembled by the retailer when received in disconnected condition from the manufacturer.
