  • Patent number: 4957647
Abstract: The invention provides novel bleaching compositions comprising peracid precursors having oxynitrogen leaving groups. Peracid precursors containing these leaving groups provide new, proficient and cost-effective compounds for fabric bleaching. These compounds have the general structures: ##STR1## where R is a straight or branched chain C.sub.1-20 alkyl, alkoxyl, cycloalkyl and mixtures thereof; R.sup.1 contains at least one carbon atom which is singly bonded directly to N; n is an integer from 1 to 6 and X is methylene or a heteroactom; or ##STR2## wherein n is the same as in (I); but R.sup.2 contains a carbon atom doubly bonded directly to N, and, either X is a heteroatom or nothing, and R is C.sub.4-17 alkyl.

  • Patent number: 4859800
Abstract: A perhydrolysis system is provided which includes peroxyacid precursors and a source of peroxygen. Upon dissolution in water these compositions provide high yields of a novel peroxyacid having the structure ##STR1## where R is hydrogen or an alkyl of not more than 5 carbon atoms. The precursor may include hydroxyl nitrogen derivatives as leaving groups, since the .alpha.-substituted phenoxy moiety enhances carbonyl reactivity toward perhydroxyl anion.

Date of Patent: August 22, 1989
    Assignee: The Clorox Company

  • Patent number: 4772290
Abstract: Storage-stable, low temperature-active liquid hydrogen peroxide laundry bleaching compositions are provided. The compositions contain a dispersion of a solid particulate peracid activator in acidic aqueous hydrogen peroxide. The activator is insoluble at the acidic conditions of storage but dissolves and activates the hydrogen peroxide at the alkaline conditions of use in laundry. Optionally the bleaching compositions can contain optical brighteners, surfactants, and/or fabric softeners.

  • Patent number: 4746461
Abstract: Aminoanthraquinones are generally useful as dyes and coloring agents. But known methods of synthesizing unsymmetrically substituted 1,4-diaminoanthraquinones are tedious and complex. A simple and efficient method is provided for preparing 1,4-diaminoanthraquinones, particularly unsymmetrically substituted 1,4-diaminoanthraquinones, by means of novel monoamino-monotosyloxy-anthraquinones.

  • Patent number: 4735740
Abstract: Novel sulfonated phenyl esters of dicarboxylic acids are useful as diperoxyacid precursors in bleaching and laundering applications when combined with a source of peroxide. These diperoxyacid precursors can be produced by reacting a dicarboxylic acid, a phenol sulfonate, and a lower alkyl acid anhydride in an alkyl hydrocarbon solvent and removing a carboxylic acid byproduct through distillation. The diperoxyacid precursors have the structure: ##STR1## wherein n is an integer from about 4 to about 18 and M is an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal, or ammonium. The diperoxyacid precursors have a high perhydrolysis profile coupled with a relatively low-to-moderate hydrolysis profile.

  • Patent number: 4457855
Abstract: This invention relates to dyes which are resistant to hypochlorite attack, exemplary of which are anthraquinone dyes of the general formula: ##STR1## wherein X.sub.1, X.sub.2, X.sub.3, X.sub.4, R.sub.5, R.sub.6, R.sub.7, and R.sub.8 are defined within the specification. The invention also relates to hydrophobic latex particles, such as polyethylene, in which such dyes are deposited. A combined liquid bleaching and dyeing composition is disclosed which includes the aforementioned particles in hypochlorite liquid bleach at a pH above about 11. This composition has sufficiently long shelf life for the purposes of ordinary commerce.
