  • Patent number: 7007951
Abstract: A transport disc for an opening device of a printed sheet feeder is arranged on a first opening drum of the opening device and has at least one outer elastic support. The outer elastic support cooperates with a securing disc of a second opening drum of the opening device to clamp an individual printed sheet between the outer elastic support and the securing disc for transporting the individual printed sheet to a transport device. The outer elastic support has an outer bearing layer and a compensation area positioned radially inwardly underneath the outer bearing layer. The compensation area is radially yielding and supports the outer bearing layer.

  • Patent number: 6517064
Abstract: A device is provided for gathering and conveying printed sheets over a conveying path. The device includes a gathering segment, with the legs of the printed sheets straddling the gathering segment. The gathering segment includes a conveyor device having a saddle-shaped support surface for receiving the printed sheets and is adaptable to be loaded by sheet feeders disposed along the gathering segment, and driven carriers disposed on the conveyor device having a guide apparatus to raise at least one leg of at least one of the printed sheets to define first printed sheets without raised legs and a second printed sheets with raised legs. The device further includes a stop apparatus projecting into the conveying path of the second printed sheets and griping the front edges of the second printed sheets, wherein the stop apparatus is adaptable to be shut off when the first printed sheets are conveyed past.

  • Patent number: 6036186
Abstract: A feeding device for printed products including a conveyor for conveying the printed products on a front conveying section in the form of a stack and on a rear conveying section in the form of a bar and in the form of a loosened zone between the stack and the bar, and a sensing device which senses the position of the stack and controls the feeding movement of the printed products. The rear conveying section includes a continuously advanced conveying device which is controlled by an intermittently advanced conveying device of the front conveying section.

  • Patent number: 5794930
Abstract: To load a gathering segment of a gather-stitcher, a printed sheet feeder includes a conveyor drum that draws printed sheets from the bottom of a stack. A stop apparatus halts the printed sheets at the end of their circulating path at the conveyor drum and is disposed downstream of a guide device which, with the conveyor drum, forms a guide gap. An opening apparatus follows the stop apparatus and is disposed upstream of the printed sheets. The guide gap is adjustable by the conveyed printed sheets.

  • Patent number: 5769405
Abstract: A device for feeding a gathering section of a gather-stitcher includes a rotatingly driven conveyor drum which pulls printed sheets off a stack of a printed sheet magazine with the fold in front. The printed sheets are conveyed around the circumference of the conveyor drum in an approximately circular path to an arresting device and then into a trajectory extending in an opposite direction from the arresting device which trajectory terminates in a functional area of a rotating gripper device of an opening device which opens the printed sheets. A sweeping device comprising a deflection element is arranged for moving into the trajectory of the printed sheets. A guide element is located opposite the sweeping device during its movement, the sweeping device sweeping the respective printed sheets on the oppositely located guide element and into a gripping position associated with the gripper device.

  • Patent number: 4775137
Abstract: The backs of a stack of square folded sheets in a gathering apparatus rest on the upper side of the upper reach of an endless belt, and successive sheets of the stack are withdrawn by the gripper of a rotating drum which delivers a succession of discrete sheets into the nip of two rotary opening conveyors serving to deposit opened sheets on the straight upper reach of a chain conveyor. The folded edges of the folded sheets are located ahead of the unfolded edges, as considered in the direction of travel of the upper reach of the chain conveyor, when the sheets are in the process of descending onto the chain conveyor, and the axes of the drum and opening conveyors make acute angles with and slope toward the upper reach of the chain conveyor counter to the direction of travel of the upper reach. The upper side of the belt is parallel to the axes of the drum and opening conveyors and also slopes toward the upper reach of the chain conveyor counter to the direction of travel of the upper reach.

  • Patent number: 4491311
Abstract: Apparatus for opening up folded sheets has a rotary withdrawing conveyor which extracts successive folded sheets from a stack and places successive withdrawn sheets into a path between two rotary spreading elements in such a way that the front edges of the sheet in the path are adjacent to the respective spreading elements and the back of the sheet is located at a level above the front edges. The spreading elements are driven in opposite directions and carry jaws which engage the respective front edges of a sheet therebetween in first angular positions of the spreading elements, whereupon the jaws move the sheet downwardly to move its front edges apart and to separate it from the withdrawing conveyor, and ultimately release the sheet in second angular positions of the spreading elements so that the sheet can descend onto a removing conveyor.
