  • Patent number: 4201917
Abstract: Apparatus for irradiation of fluids comprising a container having supported therein a rotor spaced from the container to provide a fluid flow path from an upper fluid inlet to a fluid outlet at the lower end of the container. The rotor is preferably hollow and a radiation source is disposed in the rotor whose upper portion is impermeable to the radiation of said source to shield the fluid in the upper part of the flow path. A carrier gas inlet is arranged at the lower end of the shielded path area and a gas discharge outlet is arranged at the top of the container for removal of the carrier gas together with any gases driven out of the fluid by the carrier gas. At its lower end, the container has a second gas discharge outlet for the removal of gases generated in the lower portion of the flow path by irradiation of the fluid. With this arrangement, the lower discharge outlet carries, besides the known carrier gas, only gases generated by the irradiation of the fluid.

  • Patent number: 4002918
Abstract: Apparatus for the irradiation of fluids in which the fluid is conducted along the walls of a container having walls which are permeable for the radiation to which the fluid is exposed. Radiation sources are arranged around the container and a rotor is disposed within the container. The rotor consists of a body having axial bores and pins movably disposed in the bores and adapted to engage with their front ends the container walls thereby to wipe any deposits from the container walls during rotation of the rotor.

  • Patent number: 3993911
Abstract: What follows is a description of an improved photochemical reactor which includes a reaction vessel, a UV-radiation source, and a structure defining an intermediate space between the reaction vessel and the radiation source. The reaction vessel is transparent to radiation and receives the substances to be irradiated. Within the intermediate space a luminescent material is disposed which transforms the UV-light of the radiation souce into a specific wavelength characteristic of the luminescent material and which effects the photochemical reactions of the substances within the reaction vessel.
