  • Patent number: 4667753
Abstract: A hollow truncated cone made from material with elastic properties which expands around a core being cut from the sidewall of a borehole drilled in the earth with a core cutting means rigidly connected to a core barrel. The hollow truncated core is held in position inside the core barrel such that it does not rotate with the core cutting means during the cutting of a core.

  • Patent number: 4635717
Abstract: A method and apparatus operable on a wireline logging cable for sampling and testing bore hole fluids, transmitting the results obtained from such testing to the surface for determination whether or not the particular sample undergoing testing should be collected and brought to the surface. The apparatus comprises a downhole tool having an inflatable double packer for isolating an interval of the bore hole coupled with a hydraulic pump, the pump being utilized sequentially to inflate the double packer and isolate an interval of the bore hole and to remove fluids from the isolated interval to test chamber means where resistivity, redox potential (Eh) and acidity (pH) are determined, and finally to dispose of selected samples to one or more sample container chambers within said tool or to reject them into the bore hole if not selected.

  • Patent number: 4466495
Abstract: This relates to a pressure coring tool to obtain pressurized samples of the formation through which the wellbore is drilled. It includes a housing which supports a guide means along which the drill bit, core barrel and motor can be moved to extend or retract the cutting bit and core barrel along a selected path which preferably is horizontal. The core barrel is retracted inwardly on a horizontal path and tilted in an upward position such as the outer end of the core barrel is higher than the end near the barrel. Means are provided to pressure seal the cut core within the core barrel.

Means are provided to force the cut core from the barrel into a core container in association with indexing means.

  • Patent number: 4396074
Abstract: This invention relates to an apparatus for cutting cores from the sidewall of a borehole after the borehole has been drilled. The apparatus includes an elongated housing which supports guide means which provides a path along which a core bit and motor can be moved to extend and retract the core bit. The guide means has a rotational control section and a transverse control section. The rotation control section guides the motor and its core bit from an upright position in the housing to a selected angle and the vertical transverse control section guides the coring bit means in the direction of the formation.

  • Patent number: 4252190
Abstract: Downhole variations in wireline cable tension are substantially reduced for offshore exploration by means of an auxiliary cable tensioning system preferably installed at the ocean floor wellhead. Part of the lifting force applied to a wireline cable is provided by the wireline stabilization tool at the wellhead so that fluctuations in wireline tension above the wellhead caused by ocean disturbances on the floating platform will be effectively filtered out and isolated from the main cable downhole from the wellhead. This downhole isolation is achieved with a moving wireline as well as with a stationary cable.
