  • Patent number: 5660803
Abstract: A liquified gas-containing generator has a casing in which a reaction container containing liquified gas is accommodated. So as to trigger combustion of the liquified gas a puncture element with an overflow channel is driven into the reaction container. The kinetic energy for the puncture element is generated pyrotechnically by initiation of an ignition element. The ignition gases of the ignition element pass via the overflow channel into the interior of the reaction container where these gases induce combustion of the liquified gas. The combustion gases arising thereby pass via the overflow channel out of the reaction container into a hollow space in which the puncture element is arranged. The hollow space is sealed in relation to a discharge passage by a bursting membrane. This bursting membrane bursts open when a minimum pressure of the combustion gases is reached and thereby opens the way for discharge of the combustion gases out of the casing via the discharge passage.

  • Patent number: 5471903
Abstract: A device for igniting a propellant charge is provided with a housing defining a cavity wherein a piston is displaceably guided. The cavity is connected via a bore acting as a nozzle to a chamber wherein a case member of a cartridge is arranged for accommodating the propellant charge. A bottom wall of the case member is equipped with a bore aligned with the bore acting as a nozzle. A primer wafer is disposed on the inner surface of the bottom wall, this wafer being thinner in its central zone than in its marginal zone. The central zone of the primer wafer is a region under mechanical thermal stress during compression, the ignition energy being introduced to the primer wafer via this region in the form of hot compressed air from the compression chamber.

  • Patent number: 5355766
Abstract: A magazine for cartridges ignitable by adiabatic compression is especially useful for stud driving or setting tools. The magazine has a plurality of cartridges made of synthetic resin and a magazine belt made of synthetic resin for connecting the plurality of cartridges together. The magazine belt forms bottom walls of the cartridges and in the region of each of the bottom walls is provided with an intentional separation zone. A primer wafer is provided on the magazine belt in the region of the bottom wall near the intentional separation zone. Each primer wafer in an area near the intentional separation zone is thinner than in the remaining zone surrounding the area.

  • Patent number: 5335600
Abstract: The invention relates to a propellant charge igniter mountable in a propellant charge carrier or in a cartridge. Propellant charge igniter is provided with an expulsion charge to avoid breech flash, said charge being suitable for driving an ignition guide tube completely out of an annular chamber formed between a bottom part and a flame guide tube of the propellant charge igniter.

  • Patent number: 4674405
Abstract: A partially combustible propellant charge igniter has a bottom piece with primer charge and an ignition gas guide tube adjoining this primer charge, with a combustible tube containing the booster charge, the internal diameter of this latter tube being larger than that of the ignition gas guide tube, and a cavity containing a separating charge between the ignition gas guide tube and the combustible tube. A communicating opening is provided between the propagation charge and the separating charge. The communicating opening comprises at least one bore in a valve bonnet, valve means being provided which, in case of excess pressure in the cavity with respect to the booster charge close the bores at least partially, so that ignition of the separating charge takes place essentially through the bore.

  • Patent number: 4492167
Abstract: A partially combustible propellant charge igniter in which combustible ignition-conducting tubes can be more advantageously separated. The igniter includes a metallic bottom piece accommodating an igniter charge therein, a centrally arranged ignition gas guide chamber in communication with the igniter charge for guiding ignition gas therefrom and a combustible ignition-conducting tube accommodating a propagation charge. The ignition-conducting tube is inserted into the bottom piece and extends outwardly therefrom with the propagation charge being arranged in the region of the ignition-conducting tube which extends outwardly from the bottom piece.
