  • Patent number: 5094071
Abstract: A turboramjet engine is provided having a ram air duct which is constructed between an outer duct wall and a housing-type shrouding of a basic turbo-engine, and having shut-off devices by means of which the ram air duct, when the basic engine is switched on and the ramjet engine is switched off, is to be shut-off on the air supply side, with the simultaneous release of intake air into the basic engine. In this case, among other things, the shrouding is to form an air shaft which is widened in a polygonal manner in the direction of the inlet-side end of the ram air duct and is to have breakthroughs there, the shut-off devices being flaps which are pivotally arranged at the breakthroughs and which, when the ramjet engine is switched on, expose the breakthroughs and in the process form a shut-off body of the air shaft which is symmetrically acutely folded together with respect to the ram air flow.

  • Patent number: 5033542
Abstract: A heat exchanger having a tube matrix formed by a plurality of heat exchange tubes in which a trelliswork consisting of flexible carrier strips is wound on the tubes such that the tubes serve as crossbars of the trelliswork. The trelliswork is supported at its opposite ends to the frame of the heat exchanger via stay bars to provide support against shock forces and to absorb gravitational and flow forces on the tubes.

  • Patent number: 4976310
Abstract: A heat exchanger having manifolds in essentially parallel arrangement and having a special-section tube matrix which is arranged in a housing to project into a hot gas stream carried in the housing, the tube matrix being subdivided into sections and containing U-shaped reversal zones, where compressed air to be heated is admitted into the matrix via one manifold, is reversed in its direction and fed to the other manifold. The matrix sections are divided by transverse baffle walls. The ends of transverse supports extending around the tube matrix and the manifolds are connected to the housing in the vicinity of the U-shaped reversal zones, and the manifolds are supported in the housing for axial movement at both ends and are mounted rigidly on one support and axially movably on at least one further support.

  • Patent number: 4953290
Abstract: A method of securing in fluid tight relation the spaced ends of straight legs of heat exchange tubes of a U-shaped matrix to a tubular fluid conveying duct is effected by bending the spaced ends of the straight legs of the matrix to reduce the spacing between the ends of the tubes, thereafter loosely gathering the ends of the tubes to bring them into contact along their surfaces and then encircling the loosely gathered tube ends with frame elements which apply compression forces to the tube ends to deform then and cause them to come into contact with one another over substantially the entire surface areas thereof. The tube ends are then heated to braze them together and unite them with the frame elements as a unified block assembly. The block assembly is then inserted into an opening of conforming shape in the tubular fluid conveying duct and joined to the duct in sealed relation.

  • Patent number: 4679619
Abstract: A heat exchanger comprising a plurality of spaced U-shaped tubes arranged in a matrix and disposed in a housing for the flow of hot gases around the tubes for heat exchange with a fluid conveyed in the tubes. The housing has a well surrounding the curved U-portions of the tubes of the matrix in spaced relation a shell is diposed between the wall and the curved U-portions of the tubes of the matrix. A flexible seal is mounted between the wall and the shell for preventing flow of hot gases therebetween, and at least one brush seal is mounted between the shell and the curved U-portions of the tubes of the matrix for blocking passage of hot gases therebetween. The brush seal comprises a plurality of bristles clamped at one end in a recess in the shell and fanning out towards the other free end to tangentially and sealingly contact the outermost row of the tubes of the matrix.

  • Patent number: 4311313
Abstract: A sealing arrangement for sealing the clearance between the outlet end of a rigidly mounted jet pipe and the inlet end of another pipe tiltable three-dimensionally with respect to the rigidly mounted pipe, one of the pipes being formed with a ball socket-like surface. A ring shaped seal support is mounted on the pipe not having the ball socket-like surface. A sealing ring in the support is formed of segments which overlap one another in the circumferential and axial directions, the sealing ring protruding from the support toward the ball socket-like surface. A corrugated flat spring is located between the sealing ring and the base of the seal support to urge the sealing ring toward the ball socket-like surface. The sealing ring is pressed against the ball socket-like surface and one wall of the support by pressure in the pipes when the engine is running, and that wall of the support is provided with pressure equalizing pockets.

  • Patent number: 3989193
Abstract: A jet deflecting device has a first rotatable pipe section connected to the nd of an engine jet pipe and a second pipe section rotatably connected to the end of the first pipe section. Nozzle flaps are provided at the end of the second pipe section, and coupled to be moved inwardly and outwardly in response to axial movement of a nozzle actuating skirt slidably mounted at the end of the second pipe section. A first drive motor on the stationary jet pipe directly rotates the first pipe section by way of driving gears. A second drive motor is coupled by means of gears to rotate the second pipe section independently of rotation of the first pipe section. Actuating devices mounted on the engine jet pipe and providing a linear movement are coupled by way of actuating arms extending externally of the pipe sections to the nozzle actuated skirt for control of the nozzle flaps.

A second drive motor is coupled by gears to rotate the second pipe section independently of rotation of the first pipe section, and a third drive motor is provided for rotating an angular gear carrier on the second pipe section independently of the angular position of the two pipe sections. An angle drive mechanism is provided for converting rotational movement of the angular gear carrier to axial movement of the nozzle actuating skirt for control of the nozzle flaps.
