Abstract: A retractable support stand for supporting a multiple or single stage shaft which generally extends vertically above a support surface is provided. The stand includes a yoke including a slidable support collar, an upper slidable retainer ring and an upper fit adapter. The retractable support stand includes more than one support leg having a first end snappably received to the hinge pin(s) within the inwardly projecting slots of the slidable support collar and each support leg also includes an integrally molded foot end for resting upon a support surface. The retractable support stand includes a lower assembly including a leg guide, a lower slidable retainer ring and a lower fit adapter. The leg guide includes a centrally located aperture having an inner wall in communication with lower retainer ring and more than one leg aperture each adapted to receive a leg therein.
