  • Patent number: 5744773
Abstract: A process and apparatus for effecting preheating of elongate metal parts, such as bars, for permitting subsequent deformative processing of the bar. Electrode-type clamps are attached adjacent opposite ends of the elongate bar, and direct-current electricity is applied to the clamps for transmission longitudinally of the bar to effect heating thereof. A further pair of electrode-type clamps is applied directly at each free end of the bar, with the electrode clamps of each end pair being disposed for engagement on opposite sides of the bar substantially flush with the end face of the bar. An electric current, such as an alternating-current, is applied across the sidewardly-spaced electrode clamps of each end pair to effect transmission of electrical current transversely across the bar in the direct vicinity of the end face to effect additional heating directly at the end of the bar to supplement the heating which is effected by the direct-current passed longitudinally through the bar.

  • Patent number: 5196156
Abstract: Cooling system for use in a rod rolling mill having a laying reel and an elongated conveyor onto which the rod is deposited in a pattern of overlapping offset rings, the conveyor having a section consisting of spaced, parallel transverse shafts bearing radially-extending disks whose arcuate upper peripheries support the rings in driving relationship for movement of the rod along the conveyor and for introducing cooling air under the rings for flow in a confined space thereunder.

  • Patent number: 4411394
Abstract: A pouring reel has a rotatable tube with a bottom and an upstanding cylindrical side wall open at the top. Pin members are arranged in a circular row concentrically within the side wall. The pin members are pivotally adjustable between vertical positions cooperating with the tub side wall to define an annular coil forming chamber, and inoperative positions inclined inwardly from the side wall. Pivotal adjustment of the pin members from their inoperative to their operative positions is achieved by inserting a carrier into the tub. The carrier has a base which extends across and forms the bottom of the coil forming chamber, and a central core which carries contact membrs arranged to urge the pin members into their operative positions.
