  • Patent number: 5528559
Abstract: A multiple display analog timepiece provided with a digital display (17) within the face (18) or watch crystal (13) of the timepiece (10) for displaying digital data (22), wherein the digital data (22) may be viewed without obstruction by the hands of the analog timepiece (10). The analog timepiece (10) includes an analog display (11) having at least two hands above the face (18) and below the watch crystal (13) of the timepiece; a digital display (17) within the face (18) or watch crystal (13) for visually presenting digital data (22); and motors (54) for selectively moving the hands between the position indicating the time and a read data position away from the digital data (22) when the digital data (22) is displayed on the digital display (17). The timepiece (10) may also include a radio frequency receiving device for receiving messages to be displayed as digital data (22).

  • Patent number: 4873520
Abstract: A selective call paging receiver for receiving analog voice information converts the analog information to digital information and stores the digital information in a memory of the paging receiver. In a first embodiment, the paging receiver includes a hardware controlled decoder and an audio producing module. The memory is divided into a plurality of fixed storage areas to allow the decoder to store a digitized voice message in a fixed storage area. If the storage capacity of the fixed storage area is not filled, the audio producing module fills the remainder in a predetermined bit pattern. In a second embodiment, the paging receiver includes a microprocessor controlled decoder. The microprocessor stores a digitized voice message in the memory, depending upon the length of the voice message, thus eliminating the fixed storage area.

  • Patent number: 4644347
Abstract: In the preferred embodiment the multiple frequency receiver comprises a decoder responsive to a transmitted coded message signal having a special code for designating that the message is being sent on the local frequency and which is also responsive to the absence of the special code which indicates that the signals are being transmitted on a designated nationwide frequency. The decoder includes a microprocessor which generates an output to turn on the local frequency channel element so that the pager may receive the local frequency when the special code is detected and generates a second output to turn-on a nationwide frequency channel element so that the receiver can receive a nationwide frequency when the special code is absent. This enables the pager user to transfer from his local city to another city without having to manually adjust the pager.

  • Patent number: 4506384
Abstract: The invention is a synchronized communication system for effectively transmitting messages to a remote mobile receiver where the system includes a plurality of transmitters operating on a single RF communication channel. The system includes a central wide area transmitter which transmits messages over a wide area. The system also includes a plurality of local transmitters which transmit messages over a local area within the wide area served by the wide area transmitter. The transmitters of the system are coordinated by a synchronization link which allows the central wide area transmitter to be keyed only when the local transmitters are not keyed. Correspondingly the synchronization link only allows the local transmitters to be keyed when the central wide area transmitter is not keyed. Normally the synchronization link keys and dekeys the central wide area transmitter and local transmitters in a normal timing cell pattern.
