  • Patent number: 4119058
Abstract: There is disclosed a glue applicator which essentially consists of a housing provided with an applicator nozzle, with valve means, and with a passage to conduct glue to the nozzle, the valve means being interposed between the passage and the nozzle and comprising a valve slide slidable in a bore in the housing to control communication between the passage and the nozzle. By movement of an article past the nozzle, a glue coating in strip form can be applied to the article. The housing may also include means for storing, heating and pressure feeding the glue, and suction means connectable to the nozzle to suck glue back up the nozzle when the supply from the passage is interrupted by the valve slide. The applicator may have a number of such nozzles, controlled either by a single valve slide or by a number of such valve slides.

  • Patent number: 4034655
Abstract: A method of producing a container, such as a flip-top cigarette packet, is disclosed. The method includes the initial step of folding an elongate blank at a fold line so that first and second portions of the blank on respective opposite sides of the fold line are brought into mutually facing relationship, and the subsequent steps of folding the first such portion to form the main body of the container and folding the second such portion to form the lid of the container, the latter folding step being carried out whilst the lid portion remains hingedly connected with the main body at the fold line. Also disclosed is apparatus comprising respective folding means to perform the three folding operations referred to above.

  • Patent number: 4031445
Abstract: An automatic milling or grinding machine provided with a rotationally and rectilinearly displaceable workpiece support is disclosed. Sets of information relating to the law of a camming surface to be formed on a workpiece and to workpiece-dependent parameters determining dimensional characteristics of the camming surface, respectively, are stored in the machine. Related items of information derived from each set are operatively associated with one another and a succession of angle information signals are generated, the succession defining a circular arc corresponding to one on which the axis of rotation of a given roller follower would move on following the camming surface. The machine provides pairs of co-ordinate displacement command signals in response to each angle information signal and applies the command signals to orthogonal co-ordinate drive means arranged to displace the workpiece support along the circular arc in a plane perpendicular to the rotational axis of the workpiece support.

  • Patent number: 4005619
Abstract: A steplessly settable gear box provided with a slidable head coupled to an output shaft is disclosed. The slidable head is slidably mounted on a first spur gear coupled to an input shaft and in mesh with an internally toothed fixed annular gear. A second spur gear is in mesh with an internally toothed angularly settable annular gear and the head is so coupled to the second spur gear as to be slidably deplaceable relative to the axis of rotation of the first spur gear in dependence on the angular setting of the last mentioned annular gear.

  • Patent number: 3976190
Abstract: A device for storing a plurality of packages is disclosed. The device includes a plurality of serially arranged storage drums each provided with a plurality of cells which are disposed around the periphery of the respective drum and each of which is adapted to accommodate a row of such packages. The drums are each mounted to be rotatable about a respective one of spaced apart and mutually parallel axes. The device also includes drive means to synchronously rotate next adjacent drums in mutually opposite directions, guide means to guide such packages on transfer thereof between cells of next adjacent drums, a belt conveyor to convey such packages in a direction parallel to the respective axes of rotation of the drums and disposed in operative juxtaposition to the cells at the periphery of a first of the drums. Rows of such packages are transferable between the conveyor and the cells of the drums on the latter being rotated by the drive means.

  • Patent number: 3933568
Abstract: Apparatus for manufacturing a wrapper web provided with a tear-open strip is disclosed. A web of wrapper material is fed along a generally planar guide path and two parallel incisions are made in the web to separate a narrow central strip of material therefrom. This narrow strip is raised out of the planar guide path, along which the two edge pieces on each side of the narrow strip continue to be fed. The two edge pieces are urged towards one another until mutually facing edges of the two edge pieces abut against one another below the centre of the narrow strip. The narrow strip is then guided back into the planar guide path so that it overlaps longitudinal edge portions of the two edge pieces, to which the narrow strip is adhesively or heat bonded to provide a web having a tear-off strip. The present invention relates to apparatus for manufacturing a wrapper web of viscose foil, or similar stickable or weldable wrapper material, provided with a tear-open strip.

  • Patent number: 3931561
Abstract: A milling or grinding machine for shaping a workpiece is disclosed wherein a shaping tool is displaced relative to a rotatable workpiece in accordance with coded displacement values of a series of signals stored on a perforated tape. The signals are extracted from the tape serially and are translated into command signals, which are applied to a stepping motor for imparting displacement to means supporting the shaping tool. The stored signals are extracted from the tape in response to output pulses derived from a frequency divider network, the input of which is connected to a pulse generator. The pulse generator is so coupled to means for rotating the workpiece as to provide a plurality of pulses for each predetermined angular displacement of the workpiece.
