Patent number: 5921708Abstract: A pavement-vehicle convoy for applying a cover layer of a paving material on a traffic area, such as a roadway. The convoy has at least two independently driven units with at least one of the units being a road-surface finisher and each other unit in the convoy being either a finisher or a charger. One of the units is a command unit that has a remote control used to help maintain a predetermined desired longitudinal distance between the convoy units and which can be used to help maintain a predetermined desired lateral distance from a reference line. The remote control includes a speed correcting device that utilizes signals from a distance sensor on at least one of the units that is used to detect changes from the desired distance so that speed correction signals can be generated and provided to an operation control device on at least one of the units.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1997Date of Patent: July 13, 1999Assignee: Joseph Voegele AGInventors: Roland Grundl, Alfred Ulrich

Patent number: 5817996Abstract: A multi-function electrical switch assembly (22) is disclosed that is mountable to a mosaic control panel (12) used in the controlling and monitoring of large complex traffic flow systems. The switch assembly has a bi-directional actuating mechanism including a shaft (24) that is movable axially as well as rotationally to actuate individual electrical switches (110, 112, 114, 115, 118, 120, 122, and 124). The switch assembly includes a housing (30) having an interior cavity (56) and interior walls (36, 46) to which individual switches are secured. The shaft (24) extends through the interior cavity (56) and has a rocker cam (224) and a linear cam (254) coupled thereto for actuation of various combinations of the switches. Return spring units (202) and (168) return the shaft (24) to its rotational and axial neutral positions when the shaft is released. An override spring unit (244) is coupled to the rocker cam (224) to absorb over-rotation of the shaft (24) and prevent damage to the switch mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 1997Date of Patent: October 6, 1998Assignee: Mavell CorporationInventors: Frank Alfred Ulrich, Klaus Titzrath

Patent number: 5735634Abstract: A road finisher, which is used for simultaneously applying at least two surface layers comprises a chassis, a travelling mechanism, at least two premix containers arranged on said chassis, a lateral distributor associated with the respective premix container and adapted to have material supplied thereto via a conveyor path extending in the chassis, and lateral outriggers attached to the chassis as well as a dragged road-surface applying device used for applying a surface layer and arranged on said outriggers, all road-surface applying devices being high-compaction road-surface applying screeds for recompaction-free application of a surface layer, and each high-compaction road-surface applying screed constituting a rear screed, when seen in the direction of movement, which is constructed as a high-compaction road-surface applying screed which is adapted to be used for applying and compacting concrete.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 1996Date of Patent: April 7, 1998Assignee: Joseph Vogele AGInventors: Alfred Ulrich, Erich Resch, Gunter Zegowitz

Patent number: 5556227Abstract: A road finisher comprising a chassis is described, the chassis being movable on a travelling gear and carrying a front stock hopper, a primary drive unit an incorporated secondary drive units. The road finisher is provided with a paving screed which is dragged at the rear and which is articulated on the chassis via laterial outriggers, as well as with a lifting device which is provided between the chassis and the outrigger and by means of which the paving screed can be moved to a transport position raised from the ground. The troublesome influence of the paving screed when the road finisher travels for the purpose of transportation is reduced or eliminated to a large extent in the case of such a road finisher.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 1995Date of Patent: September 17, 1996Assignee: Joseph Vogele AGInventor: Alfred Ulrich

Patent number: 4759657Abstract: The present invention refers to a method for controlling the vertical adjustment of a levelling and compacting plank drawn by a road-construction machine. During the working procedure the level of the plank, which is in floating contact with the material, is adjusted automatically. The present invention aims at preventing undesirable lifting of the plank caused by material which is located ahead of the plank and the flowability of which was changed due to an interruption in the motion of the machine. Hence, the invention employs the feature that, when the travelling mechanism is switched on, lifting of the plank, which is blocked against lowering when the machine is standing still, is blocked as well and that the blocking is eliminated only after a predetermined period of time.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 1986Date of Patent: July 26, 1988Assignee: Joseph Vogele AGInventors: Paul Dorr, deceased, Roland Grundl, Alfred Ulrich

Patent number: 4597627Abstract: The invention relates to a multiple signal cable system having a plurality of individual plug heads formed at the free ends of the cables for connection to a corresponding number of counter-piece contacts on a unitary adapter. The present invention permits a simplified manipulation of the multiple plug heads for connection with the adapter, while also affording rearrangement of the sequence of individual plug heads in accordance with the particular adapter. The individual plug heads are connected together in a consolidated, unitary arrangement by means of a housing collar having a sequence of side-by-side chambers for respectively securing the plug heads tightly therein. Lock means are provided on the housing and plug heads to secure the plug heads against relative movement and prevent the individual plug heads from falling out or being withdrawn from the unitary arrangement; however, the lock means are releasable to permit removal or rearrangement of the plug heads as needed.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 1983Date of Patent: July 1, 1986Assignee: Siemens AktiengesellschaftInventors: Arthur Wondra, Gerhard Weller, Alfred Ulrich

Patent number: 4266258Abstract: A device for quickly reconnecting two portions of a current carrying line after separation of the line portions through actuation of a circuit breaker includes a second circuit breaker and a serially connected switch connected in parallel with a primary circuit breaker. Closure of the switch reconnects the line portions through the second circuit breaker after actuation of the primary circuit breaker. The switch can include auxiliary contacts for supplying power to an ignition device associated with the second circuit breaker, to render the second circuit breaker operable only when the switch is closed.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 1979Date of Patent: May 5, 1981Assignee: BBC Brown Boveri & Company LimitedInventors: Adolf Eidinger, Carl D. Patent number: 3983866Abstract: A photoelectric pulsemeter has an applicator connected to an electrical line and containing a light transmitting source fed from an electrical lamp and a photo-electrical receiver screened upon the application side from the light transmitting source. The invention is particularly characterized in that the applicator is divided and has a carrier containing the application side and the source of transmitting light and a supporting plate removable from the carrier and having the lamp, the receiver and possibly other electrical structural parts and conduits. The lamp and the receiver are so constructed and arranged that when the applicator is mounted they functionally properly adapt themselves to the carrier.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 1972Date of Patent: October 5, 1976Assignee: Siemens AktiengesellschaftInventors: Alfred Ulrich, Georg Naser
