  • Patent number: 4409194
Abstract: A method of separating magnesium from wet process superphosphoric acid by filtration characterized by no or minimizing agitation during the crystallization of the magnesium in order to form readily filterable agglomerates of MgH.sub.2 P.sub.2 O.sub.7.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 21, 1980
Date of Patent: October 11, 1983
    Assignee: Stauffer Chemical Company
    Inventor: Alfred W. Petersen
  • Patent number: 4152405
Abstract: Co-current absorber for recovering inorganic compounds from plant effluents, particularly useful for recovery of fluorine values as low phosphorus fluosilicic acid from phosphate plant effluents. Improved co-current absorber utilizing multiple cyclonic entrainment separators, co-current flow and renewed droplet surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4127400
Abstract: A process of manufacturing liquid fertilizer from ortho phosphoric acid is described herein. Specifically, the process involves extracting ortho phosphoric acid from phosphate rock using sulfuric acid in the usual manner. The ortho phosphoric acid is then concentrated to a P.sub.2 O.sub.5 content of 30-58% by weight. The wet process ortho phosphoric acid is then ammoniated at a carefully controlled pH in a range of about 3.0 to 5.5. Water and commercial clays are added to the ammoniated phosphoric acid during ammoniation or after ammoniation. A stable non-gelling suspension fertilizer results.

  • Patent number: 4001383
Abstract: A process for thermally-degrading the thermally-degradable organic matter contained in spent sulfuric acid by condensing steam in the spent acid for a time sufficient to degrade the thermally-degradable organic matter, the steam being at a pressure exceeding the vapor pressure of said spent acid. Treated sulfuric acid is useful in the production of wet process phosphoric acid by a novel process. Spent sulfuric acid containing non-degradable organic matter can be used in a mixture with the treated sulfuric acid.
