  • Patent number: 6153093
Abstract: The filter intercepts dirt emanating from a molten-polymer extruder. The filter is clamped between perforated support plates, and a rotor sweeps the holes in the upstream plate. The rotor defines a cavity which communicates with a small sector of the holes at any one time. The cavity is openable to drain, via a valve. The melt is under high pressure, to which the cavity is exposed. The rotor is rotated by a drive-shaft, and the drain is located co-axially with the drive-shaft.

  • Patent number: 6065953
Abstract: The die-lip is heated by an electric heater cable wrapped into a groove positioned close to the lip. The heater cable is pressed radially against the lip-side of the groove by many individual Vee-shaped spring-clips, which are arranged in a contiguous series around the circumference of the groove.

  • Patent number: 5984657
Abstract: This invention relates to a Multi-Layer Blown-Film Extrusion Die. An Extrusion Die is a key component of extrusion equipment, used in manufacture of Blown film for packaging industry. Although this Extrusion Die relates to production of five or more layers of blown films, it can also be used for production of lesser number of layers. While in the conventional outside fed die, melt was to be conveyed around the die in a fanning-out configuration, in this invention the polymer melt is split into two streams, before being fanned or spread around the circumference. Polymer melt enters several spiral or helical grooves prior to joining the gap that enjoins melt with other layers of the melt streams. The dimensions of spiral grooves and lands are carefully calculated, keeping in view relevant factors such as melt viscosity, shear sensitivity temperature and pressure requirements etc.

  • Patent number: 4842504
Abstract: An extrusion die-set is disclosed for extruding plastic film, in which the nozzle-lips (6,8) are heated, for the purpose of allowing production speed to be raised without losing film-quality. The heaters include aluminum rings (62,82) embedded in grooves in the dies near the nozzle lips. The surfaces (66,67,86,87) of the ring that face away from the nozzle lips are cut away, so that heat transfer to the bulk of the dies (60,80) is reduced. The disclosed heaters eliminate the problem of hot-spots and cold-spots around the circumference of the nozzle. The nozzle lips can run several degrees hotter than the bulk of the dies, using the disclosed heaters.
