  • Patent number: 4719667
Abstract: A clamp for attaching a shirred casing article, to a stuffing machine. The casing article includes a shirred casing carried on a disposable sleeve and the clamp comprises a plurality of radially movable elements arranged circumferentially about an end of the sleeve. The elements are driven by a cam which rotates about the longitudinally axis of the sleeve such that rotation in one direction presses the elements radially inward against the sleeve and rotation in an opposite direction moves the elements radially away from the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4690173
Abstract: A shirred casing article having a relatively high pack ratio uniformly distributed over the length of the stick and a substantially uniform outside diameter.

  • Patent number: 4578842
Abstract: A method and apparatus for compacting strands of shirred casing by applying substantially equal and opposite forces simultaneously to both ends of the strand. In one embodiment this double-ended simultaneous compaction is achieved by compacting the strand about a sliding sleeve and against a restraint so that movement of a compaction arm against only one end of the strand will cause the sleeve to slide with respect to the restraint.

  • Patent number: 4493130
Abstract: A shirred casing article including a compacted strand of shirred casing functionally engaged about a tubular core, wherein the core is formed with end portions which capture an axially compacted length of the strand to the core without interferring with subsequent deshirring. The end portions preferably are formed while the casing strand is being held under compression so that a fully compacted length is captured to the core.
