  • Patent number: 9532785
Abstract: Methods and devices for maintaining vascular access and/or minimizing bleeding during percutaneous interventions. The method can include advancing an access wire through a previously placed access catheter in a contralateral femoral artery to position an inflatable balloon on the access wire in a vascular access sheath located in an ipsilateral femoral artery, without using any additional guidewires to advance the access wire. After withdrawing the vascular access sheath at least partway out of the ipsilateral femoral artery to expose the vascular injury, the balloon can be inflated to occlude the ipsilateral femoral artery or an ipsilateral iliofemoral artery at or near the vascular injury.

  • Publication number: 20160220235
Abstract: A vascular closure device can include both a mechanical component and a biological component for sealing an arteriotomy. The mechanical component reduces the size or closes the arteriotomy. The biological component covers and fills any spaces or cracks present after the arteriotomy has been mechanically reduced in size. An exemplary embodiment includes a suture or clip to approximate the edges of the arteriotomy, and a smooth rounded plug is advanced along the suture towards the closed arteriotomy. An applicator device can be used to deliver the plug and, in particular, the device can include a guidewire that is offset from a central axis along a side of the applicator. In situ, the plug transforms to a flowable or gel state and fills and covers any cracks and spaces along the closed arteriotomy.

  • Publication number: 20160116522
Abstract: The fully adaptive fault location method is based on synchronized phasor measurements obtained by Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs). The method utilizes only PMU synchronized measurements and does not require any data to be provided by the electric utility. Line parameters for each section of the line and Thevenin's equivalents (TEs) of the system at each of three terminals are determined online, utilizing three independent sets of pre-fault PMU measurements. This ensures that the actual operating conditions of the system are adequately considered. Simulation results show that the present method is capable of producing reliable and very accurate solutions.

  • Publication number: 20150301101
Abstract: The adaptive phasor measurement unit (PMU)-based series-compensated line (SCL) fault location method uses three different sets of pre-fault voltage and current phasor measurements at both terminals of the SCL. The three sets of local PMU measurements at each terminal are used for online calculation of a respective Thevenin Equivalent (TE). This enables representation of the power system pre-fault network with a reduced two-terminal equivalent system. The PMU measurements are also utilized for online calculation of the SCL parameters. This non-iterative method does not need knowledge of a time elapsed for the wave propagation from a fault point to a sending end and a receiving end. Two subroutines SA and SB are used for locating faults. A selection procedure is applied for indicating the valid subroutine and, hence, the actual fault location.

  • Publication number: 20150133892
Abstract: A method of reducing the risk of clinical sequelae to catheter induced vascular injuries may include introducing a guide wire into a vascular sheath residing in a blood vessel, proximally retracting the vascular sheath while leaving the wire in place, and observing indicia of the presence or absence of a vascular injury caused to the blood vessel by the vascular sheath or a procedural catheter previously advanced through the vascular sheath. If indicia of a vascular injury are observed, the method may further involve proximally retracting the guide wire to position the inflatable balloon adjacent the injury and inflating the balloon to reduce blood flow past the injury, while leaving the guide wire in place to provide subsequent access to the injury. The inflatable balloon can be inflated and deflated through a valve positioned at the proximal end of the guide wire.

  • Publication number: 20150073735
Abstract: The adaptive fault location method for power system networks utilizes phasor measurement units (PMUs) disposed at disparate locations to obtain synchronized phasor measurements. Three different sets of pre-fault voltage and current phasor measurements are obtained at both terminals of the line under test. The three sets of local PMU measurements at each terminal are used for online calculation of a corresponding system's Thevenin equivalent (TE). This representation of the power system pre-fault network is a reduced two-terminal equivalent. Using the method of multiple measurements with linear regression (MMLR), the three sets of PMU measurements are also employed for online calculation of the transmission line parameters (series resistance, series reactance and shunt susceptance). Online determination of the TEs and line parameters can enhance fault location accuracy by avoiding possible mismatch with the actual parameters due to system loading and other environmental conditions.
