  • Publication number: 20160130853
Abstract: The present invention is generally a movable barrier operator with a touchscreen user interface, and more specifically, to a movable barrier operator that provides an integrated display for enabling a graphical user interface (GUI) that relays easy to use diagnostic or systemic information to a user. In one embodiment, the present invention involves a movable barrier operator with a touchscreen display that provides a GUI to enable installing, troubleshooting, or controlling the movable barrier operator. This touchscreen interface is implemented with the barrier operator and provides the advantage of displaying meaningful information without the need to use pseudo-words to communicate a message, a setting or an option to the user. In the same manner, the GUI offers the capability to present readable and meaningful messages in case of errors or malfunctions instead of displaying error codes or pseudo-language which inadequately describes these errors.

  • Publication number: 20150263651
Abstract: The present invention is generally a movable barrier operator with a backup control module that enables a secondary means of delivering power and facilitating control for actuating the motor in order to move a barrier without accessing the main controller. In an exemplary embodiment, a motor may be adapted to mechanically control a movable barrier from alternative power sources. One power source may provide power to a controller serving as the main controller of the operator. This power source may power an adjacent charger that charges a battery. A set of switches or relays, may connect the motor to both the main controller and the battery. In the event of a malfunction, the motor may be disconnected from the main controller and actuated directly by the battery power. To achieve this, various embodiments may be implemented without limiting the scope for the present invention.

  • Publication number: 20150259965
Abstract: The present invention is generally a system and method for automatically actuating or controlling a movable barrier in response to a travel-limit displacement of the movable barrier, and more specifically, a movable barrier operator system configured to respond automatically to a travel-limit displacement, or change in position of a barrier's travel limit, in order to return the movable barrier to its intended position. In an exemplary embodiment, an operator may receive from one or more sensors adapted to detect any change in the travel limit position, a signal detecting a change in barrier position. In response to this signal, the operator may generate a command in order to counter-act, or push-back, the undesired movement of the barrier. In some applications, the invention provides a measure of security. In other applications, the invention provides a measure of efficiency and overall stability of a movable barrier system.

  • Publication number: 20150253784
Abstract: The invention relates to a movable barrier operator with a microelectromechanical positioning sensor, or a movable barrier operator that employs an inertial measuring unit to receive a signal associated with a barrier position, and communicate that signal to one or more devices. A device in communication with the movable barrier operator may be enabled for receiving information pertaining to the barrier and for providing commands that actuate the barrier at precise barrier parameters. In an exemplary embodiment, a movable barrier such as a swing-arm gate may be accurately controlled without requiring manual positioning mechanisms, or otherwise require physical components to set the gate's open and closed limits. Additionally, accurate information may be communicated to a user device, for monitoring and providing maintenance to the movable barrier system.
