  • Patent number: 8565331
Abstract: Examples are generally described that include transmission methods including inserting at least a portion of data from a first data stream into a second data stream to be transmitted over a communications channel. On receipt of the two data streams, examples of receiving methods include receiving the replicated data, decoding the replicated data using an estimated channel matrix, and generating an updated estimate of the channel matrix based, at least in part, on the replicated data.

Assignee: The Board of Regents of the University of Texas System
Inventors: Ali Yazdan Panah, Robert W. Heath, Jr.
  • Patent number: 8514913
Abstract: Techniques are generally described for estimating a communication channel using wirelessly transmitted and retransmitted signals, each transmitted at a different power ratio. An example wireless communications system may include a base station, a relay station and a wireless device. The base station may include a transmitter configured to transmit a first signal, wherein the first signal includes pilot and data symbols with a first power ratio. The relay station may include a receiver configured to receive the first signal, and a transmitter configured to retransmit the first signal as a second signal, wherein the second signal includes pilot and data symbols with a second power ratio. The wireless device includes a receiver configured to receive the first and second signals, i.e. the transmitted and retransmitted pilot and data symbols having the first and second power ratios are received, and estimate a communications channel from the received signals.

  • Publication number: 20120263210
Abstract: A system and method for two-way relaying with beamforming are provided. A method for relay operations includes estimating communications channels between a relay and communications devices coupled to the relay, storing data contained in the transmissions, storing data contained in the transmissions, precoding a transmission including a subset of the stored data with a precoding matrix, and transmitting the precoded transmission. The estimating is based on transmissions made by the communications devices in the subset of communications devices, and the precoding matrix is based on estimates of the communications channels.

  • Publication number: 20120224498
Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure propose a method for estimating a channel utilizing Sparse Bayesian Learning (SBL) algorithm. The proposed method employs a Basis expansion (e.g., polynomial) channel model, and iteratively performs SBL algorithm to adjust parameters of the channel model.

  • Publication number: 20110110252
Abstract: A system and method for channel estimation in wireless communications systems are provided. A method for operations at a first communications device includes computing an estimate of a channel between the first communications device and a second communications device based on pilot signals transmitted from the second communications device, removing self-interference from a composite transmission relayed from a relay node, and detecting information contained in the transmissions from the second communications device from the composite transmission based on the estimate of the channel. The composite transmission includes transmissions from the first communications device and transmissions from the second communications device.
