  • Publication number: 20070110041
Abstract: A broadband communication channel access network comprises an Ethernet device disposed in a serving area interface. The Ethernet device serves as an Ethernet bridge for a neighborhood service area. The Ethernet device communicates with a plurality of customer premises modems in the neighborhood service area. An Ethernet switch disposed at a central office communicates with the Ethernet device via a fiber optic medium using an Internet Protocol over a second Ethernet standard. The Ethernet switch provides a packet data core network termination.

  • Publication number: 20070049293
Abstract: A private wireless network access point is associated with a predetermined telephone number corresponding to a physical location. The associated predetermined telephone number is included with call setup information when a wireless terminal in a private wireless network communicates via the access point so that a location of the wireless terminal can be determined based on the predetermined telephone number.

  • Publication number: 20060019630
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed to support multiple wireless account for a given subscriber. A method that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, linking various accounts to a wireless enabled device of a wireless service subscriber. In one embodiment, device addresses like telephone numbers and electronic mail addresses for devices that may call or be called by the subscriber may be associated one of the various accounts. In operation, a call may be completed between the subscriber's wireless enabled device and one of the other devices, and a call metric for the call may be tracked. A billing entry for the call may be generated from the call metric and the call may be charged to an appropriate account selected from the various accounts. The process of determining the appropriate account may include, for example, determining if the device address for the other device is associated with one of the accounts linked to the subscriber's wireless enabled device.

  • Publication number: 20050064855
Abstract: In a particular embodiment, a system is provided that includes a wireless beacon to provide wireless data communication with a mobile telephone to detect a location of the mobile telephone within a wireless detection area provided by a wireless beacon, and a communication interface to send a call forwarding message to a cellular switch. The call forwarding message provides an instruction to route future calls destined for the mobile telephone to an alternate network address. In another embodiment, a method of selecting a destination telephone is disclosed that includes detecting a location of a mobile telephone within a wireless detection area provided by a wireless beacon, and sending a call forwarding message to a wide area switch having a communication path targeted to the mobile telephone. The call forwarding message provides an instruction to route future calls destined for the mobile telephone to an alternative communication path.

  • Publication number: 20050025175
Abstract: A digital subscriber line access network comprises a remote Ethernet device disposed in a serving area interface. The remote Ethernet device serves as an Ethernet bridge for a neighborhood service area. The remote Ethernet device communicates with a plurality of customer premises modems in the neighborhood service area using an Internet Protocol over an Ethernet standard with a digital subscriber line physical layer. An Ethernet switch disposed at a central office communicates with the remote Ethernet device via a fiber optic medium using an Internet Protocol over a second Ethernet standard. The Ethernet switch provides a packet data core network termination.

  • Publication number: 20050026650
Abstract: An access point of a private wireless network can be installed at many different locations. A call originating from the private wireless network includes a telephone number, which is associated with a location where the access point is installed, in the call setup information. A mapping of the telephone number to an access point ID is established, where the telephone number is associated with the access point point of connection into the network. Accordingly, a location-based service, such as emergency 911, can locate a caller in a private wireless network.

  • Publication number: 20050027867
Abstract: A telecommunications network is enhanced with a presence component. A session initiator requests a session with a session terminator by contacting a presence server. The presence server receives the request for presence information and processes the request by comparing the session initiator's identity to preferences of the session terminator to identify a preferred treatment. The presence server returns the preferred treatment to the session initiator. The session is then initiated or not initiated based upon the preferred treatment.
