    Abstract: Systems and methods for DFT-S-SCMA (discrete Fourier Transform-spread-sparse code multiple access) are provided. Input bits are encoded with an SCMA encoder. The output is precoded with a IDFT (inverse DFT) to produce a precoded SCMA block. Multiple precoded SCMA blocks are combined at the input of a DFT. This is done in parallel for multiple sets of SCMA blocks at multiple DFTs. Then, the outputs of the DFTs are combined and OFDM modulated. This approach can be used to improve the PAPR (peak to average power ratio) at the output of the OFDM modulation.

The candidate waveforms may be identified in accordance with one or more criteria, such as a transmission capability of the transmitting device, a reception capability of the receiving device, a desired Peak-to-Average-Power-Ratio (PAPR) characteristic, adjacent channel interference (ACI) rejection requirements, spectrum localization requirements, and other criteria.     Abstract: Embodiments are provided to enable distributed open-loop multi-user co-operative multi-point (MU-CoMP) scheduling and transmission. In an embodiment, network nodes schedule data transmissions for UEs among multiple transmission tiers that include a first transmission tier having predetermined modulation and coding and a second transmission tier having adaptive modulation and coding. The first transmission tier and the second transmission tier are in respective time-frequency resources that at least partially overlap. The network nodes transmit the scheduled data transmissions in the transmission tiers according to the scheduling for the UEs. A UE receives CoMP transmissions once it is scheduled for transmission by multiple network nodes.

    Abstract: Embodiments are provided to enable downlink open-loop multi-user coordinated multipoint (MU-CoMP) transmission using sparse code multiple access (SCMA). In an embodiment, a network controller selects, in a cluster of multiple transmission points (TPs) and multiple user equipment (UEs), a MU-CoMP with SCMA transmission mode and a UE paring scheme for data transmission from a set of TPs to a set of UEs. The controller schedules the set of UEs for data transmission from the set of TPs, including coordinating and allocating, for each TP in the set of TPs, a plurality of SCMA layers to the UEs in accordance with the selected MU CoMP with SCMA transmission mode. The controller also determines values for control signaling based on the scheduling. The control signaling configures the set of UEs to detect the data transmission from the TPs.

    Abstract: User Equipment (UE) mobility in Ultra Dense Networks (UDNs) is based on communication signal layers, which could include respective data streams in an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) domain, a code domain using respective codebooks, and/or a spatial domain, for example. A UE uses candidate layer decoding parameters in applying layer-based decoding to communication signals that it received from network nodes. Layers could be allocated to UEs and transition between network nodes as UEs move between different network service areas. Layers could instead be allocated to network nodes. Layer-based decoding provides for UE mobility without requiring explicit handover processing every time a UE moves between different service areas.

    Abstract: Longer pilot sequences can be supported by transmitting pilot values of a given pilot sequence over different orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) symbols of an uplink frame. The pilot values may be contiguous, or non-contiguous, with one another in the time domain. Consecutive pilot values in a pilot sequence may be transmitted in different OFDM symbols of the frame. For example, odd pilot values (e.g., P1, P3, P5 . . . ) in a pilot sequence may be transmitted over a different OFDM symbol than even pilot values (e.g., P2, P4, P6 . . . ) in the pilot sequence. Alternatively, a leading subset of pilot values in a pilot sequence is transmitted over a different OFDM symbol than a trailing subset of pilot values in the pilot sequence.
