    Abstract: A process for the production of alcohol, by hydrogenation of an aldehyde over a copper and zinc-containing catalyst includes the step of treating the reduced catalyst with a sulphur compound. The process reduces the hydrogenation of olefin contained in the aldehyde feed compared with a process using an untreated catalyst.
