  • Patent number: 4657982
Abstract: Blends, and films made therefrom, are disclosed, such blends being made from 80-99 percent by weight of a polyethylene, 0.5 to 10.0 percent by weight of a polybutene having a number average molecular weight of from 500 to 1500 and 0.5 to 10.0 percent by weight of a polybutene having a number average molecular weight of from 1700 to 10 000. The films are useful in stretch wrapping applications.

  • Patent number: 4503102
Abstract: Pouches containing a flowable material e.g. milk, ice cream mix, are made of a sealant film which is a blend of a linear ethylene-C.sub.4 -C.sub.10 .alpha.-olefin copolymer and an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer. The ethylene-C.sub.4 -C.sub.10 .alpha.-olefin has a density of 0.916 to 0.930 g/cm.sup.3 and a melt index of from 0.3 to 2.0 dg/min. The ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer has a weight ratio of ethylene to vinyl acetate from 2.2 to 24 and a melt index of from 0.2 to 10 dg/min. The blend has a ratio of linear ethylene-C.sub.4 -C.sub.10 .alpha.-olefin copolymer to ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer of from 1.2:1 to 9:1.

  • Patent number: 4490324
Abstract: A process is disclosed for the manufacture of nylon packaging film having improved slip characteristics. In the process a homogeneous mixture is formed from a film-forming nylon resin and between 0.05 and 1.0 percent by weight thereof of a material selected from the group consisting of (1) secondary amides of the formula ##STR1## and (2) N, N' ethylene bis amides of the formula ##STR2## where R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are aliphatic hydrocarbon chains of C.sub.14 -C.sub.22. The homogeneous mixture is then extruded into film subsequently, the film is heated to a temperature between 40.degree. C. and 150.degree. C. for a period of 2 to 30 minutes in order to accelerate the development of improved film slip characteristics. The nylon film having improved slip characteristics is useful for the packaging of bacon and other processed meats.

  • Patent number: 4477407
Abstract: A process for machine direction orientation of nylon films in which nip rolls are applied to both the slow and fast orientation rolls with a substantially uniform force in the range of 15 to 45 N/cm width of nip roll. The temperature of the slow roll is held between 70.degree. and 180.degree. C. and the temperature of the fast roll is held between the temperature of the first roll and 20.degree. C. below the melting temperature of the nylon film. The distance between the orientation rolls is in the range of 10 to 2050 .mu.m.

  • Patent number: 4461808
Abstract: The present invention provides an oriented film made from a blend of nylon 66 with another nylon selected from the group consisting of nylon 6, nylon 11, nylon 12 and nylon 6,12 and having a moisture content of from 0.75 to 2.25% by weight. The weight proportions of nylon 66 to the other nylon are in the range of from 94:6 to 10:90. Such films are suitable for laminating to a sealant web, for food packaging applications.

  • Patent number: 4311816
Abstract: A solution polymerization process for the preparation of homopolymers of ethylene and copolymers of ethylene and higher .alpha.-olefins and a coordination catalyst for such a process are disclosed. In the process monomer is polymerized in the presence of the coordination catalyst which consists of a particular admixture of (a) a solution of an organoaluminum compound and an organomagnesium compound, with (b) a solution of a titanium compound and a vanadium compound. The catalyst exhibits relatively high activity in the polymerization of the monomers.
