  • Patent number: 7655596
Abstract: The present invention if for a catalyst for epoxidation of an alkene, such as ethylene, to an alkene oxide, such as ethylene oxide, on which silver has been deposited on alumina as a support which has been modified with certain weak base compounds, such as oxides of a Group 1A, Group 2A, Group 3A or the first transition series of the Periodic Table of Elements, and with a high temperature heat treatment. Optional promoters selected from the group consisting of compounds of Group 1A, Group 2A, Group 7A and Group 8 may be contacted with the alpha-alumina support in solution with a silver compound, with the catalyst precursor before calcination or with the catalyst after calcination. The catalyst is brought into contact with alkene and oxygen under reaction conditions to selectively convert the alkene to an alkene oxide.

  • Patent number: 7449168
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for making a germanium-zeolite without using fluoride compounds. The zeolite is preferably a MFI-type structure, most preferably a ZSM-5 MFI zeolite. The germanium-zeolite is synthesized essentially in the absence of fluoride compounds from an aqueous gel containing a silica source, a germanium source, an aluminum source and a structure directing agent in the presence of an acid which does not contain fluorine, such as sulfuric acid, acetic acid, nitric acid, phosphoric acid hydrochloric acid or formic acid.

  • Patent number: 7029650
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for making a germanium-zeolite. The zeolite is preferably a MFI-type structure, most preferably a ZSM-5 MFI zeolite. The germanium-zeolite is synthesized from an aqueous gel containing a silica source, a germanium source, an aluminum source and a structure directing agent in the presence of an acid to control the pH of the gel in the range of 6.5 to 13.5, preferably 7.5 to 11, to maximize the amount of germanium incorporated into the zeolite framework. Optionally, a sodium compound may be introduced into the reaction mixture gel either before or after the addition of the acid, preferably before.

  • Patent number: 6825149
Abstract: A shell impregnated catalyst of Pd-Au produced on a silica support to have a Pd loading of 1.8 g/L of catalyst to about 7.2 g/L and a Au to Pd weight ratio of 0.3 to 2.0 by impregnating the support with aqueous solutions of palladium and gold salts or acids and thereafter precipitating water insoluble compounds of Pd and Au on the with alkali metal silicate or hydroxide solutions, then dried, and the surface precipitated compounds of Pd and Au are then reduced by reaction with ethylene or hydrogen at a temperature of greater than 150° C. up to 310° C. or with hydrogen up to 299° C. until substantially all of the Pd and Au contents are reduced to a free metal state, after which the support is impregnated with potassium acetate to an extent of 6 to 7 weight percent of the weight of the total catalyst.

  • Patent number: 6794332
Abstract: A shell impregnated catalyst of Pd—Au produced on a silica support by impregnating the support with aqueous solutions of palladium and gold salts or acids and thereafter precipitating water insoluble compounds of Pd and Au on the support with alkali metal silicate or hydroxide fixing agents, then drying the support which has precipitated compounds of Pd and Au on its surface and reducing the surface precipitated compounds of Pd and Au until substantially all of the Pd and Au contents are reduced to a free metal state, after which the catalyst precursor is impregnated with potassium acetate and then dried. Improvements in the catalyst are realized by certain factors in process and composition.
