  • Patent number: 4714199
Abstract: This invention relates to a nozzle assembly used to atomize liquids within air, particularly useful for coating die surfaces with die release lubricants. The atomizing nozzle includes an internal poppet valve element which is operated to control the flow of lubricant in response to a control air pressure signal. Blow air is initially transmitted to a pre-atomization area where some air is introduced in the lubricant which is thereafter introduced into the main blow air stream. This pre-atomization function has been found to enable fine atomization at low flow rates of lubricant. The pre-atomization bore further enables the device to be self-cleaning by clearing out the lubricant passage. Fine control over lubricant flow rate is provided by an elliptical shaped orifice which is closed off by the end of the poppet valve element.

  • Patent number: 4565082
Abstract: A multipiece spray assembly is disclosed which provides an annular axially and radially inwardly inclined nozzle passage operative to rapidly and efficiently apply a substantially complete and uniform coating to the inner surfaces of a forming cavity. Additional nozzle means may also be provided to simultaneously coat an overlying forming tool.

  • Patent number: 4452578
Abstract: A new spray ring apparatus for use in forming apparatus of the type used in metal forming and glassware forming which include a forming cavity into which a fluid lubricant material is sprayed. In one embodiment, the spray ring includes a plurality of nozzles through which the fluid lubricant material is sprayed into the cavity in a tangential helical flow pattern to thereby uniformly coat the interior surfaces of the cavity prior to the forming of the metal or glassware parts therein. In another embodiment, an annular nozzle flowpath is provided with the helical flow pattern being imparted to the lubricant material via a tangentially disposed inlet opening into an annular manifold chamber. A plurality of nozzle openings may be provided in the outer surface of the spray ring which may operate to uniformly coat the outer surfaces of a punch or similar type of associated overlying forming tool.

  • Patent number: 4365754
Abstract: A spray assembly including an improved control valve is disclosed which is designed for heavy industrial usage to enable application of air and/or atomized liquids to be applied to the working surfaces of various types of forming apparatus such as molds and dies for example. The control valve utilized in the spray assembly of the present invention incorporates a piston actuated plunger assembly which is designed for extremely rapid operation whereby substantially maximum liquid fluid flow may be obtained almost instantaneously. Additionally, the spray assembly is designed so as to enable application of either one fluid alone such as blow air or both air and liquid. Also, the plunger is positioned so as to provide substantially unobstructed liquid flow into the air stream for atomization when in a fully open position thereby enabling large volumes of liquid to be applied within relatively short cycling time.

  • Patent number: 4099673
Abstract: There is disclosed herein a spray gun particularly adapted for heavy duty use in applying a variety of fluids to the working surfaces of dies, molds, or other like forming apparatus. The spray gun comprises a main body housing adapted for the connection of compressed air and other fluid supply lines and having a single axially movable double action valve disposed therein which is adapted to selectively control both the flow of compressed air and other desired fluids. The double action valve is actuated by a lever arm connected to the body portion and engaging a portion of the valve member. A delivery tube is connected to the discharge end thereof for transmitting and directing the fluid or fluids to the surface to be sprayed.
