  • Patent number: 8449400
Abstract: A safety guard (10) for use with a wide angle joint on an agricultural power takeoff (PTO) shaft comprises a guard housing that extends around the wide-angle joint when the guard is fitted. The guard housing comprises a first housing part (12) hingedly connected to a second housing part (14) to thereby allow the first housing part (12) and second housing part (14) to move relatively open to each other and relatively closed to each other about a hinge (19), a locking member (50, 54) to lock the first housing part (12) to the second housing part (14) in a closed condition and operable to be unlocked to allow the first housing part (12) and the second housing part (14) to be moved away from each other about the hinge. Each housing part (12, 14) includes a lip (44, 46) on one end thereof, the lip (44, 46) having a profile to match a profile of an end bellows (38) to which the guard (10) is attached.

  • Patent number: 8147341
Abstract: A drive coupling has an inner plate positioned within an inner periphery of an outer plate. The inner plate includes a plurality of outwardly-extending projections. The inner periphery of the outer plate includes a plurality of recesses. A plurality of short heavy-duty compression springs are arranged to compress in a substantially-straight linear direction between respective projections of the inner plate and the respective side wall of the recess of the outer plate. The springs are further retained by spring travel limiting guides which protrude from the outer plate. The inner plate and an associated central shaft are positively supported by bushings and/or bearings which reside in outer retaining plates. These bushings and/or bearings retain the inner and outer plates in a fixed non-yielding radial and axial position. Bolts are used to hold the outer drive plate and the external retaining plates together.

  • Patent number: 7621688
Abstract: A safety guard 10 has a guard body 12 shaped such that it will fit over the yoke 18 of a power take off shaft. The yoke 18 includes a groove 24 formed in an outer surface near the end 22. Safety guard bearing 26 is mounted to groove 24. Safety guard bearing 26 also has a groove 28 formed in an outer surface. Two levers 30 are pivotally mounted to the safety guard body 12 by pivot pins that extend through apertures 36 in the levers 30. One end of levers 30 has a camming member that includes a lobe 38. Due to the relative position of the pivot aperture 36 and the lobe 38, the lobe 38 acts as an over center cam. When lever 30 is in the locked position, lobe 38 extends into groove 28. Lever 30 also includes a locking tongue 46. When the lever 30 is moved to the locking position, locking tongue 46 also extends into groove 28 on safety guard bearing 26. Thus, locking tongue 46 provides a secondary locking mechanism to assist in maintaining the safety guard 10 on the safety guard bearing 26.

A first retaining plate 42 is positioned by passing it over shaft 32. A spacer ring 48 is positioned such that it abuts one side of the inner plate 14. A second retaining plate 50 is located on the other of the inner and outer plates. Bolts 56 are used to hold the retaining plates 42 and 50 together.
