  • Patent number: 4979906
Abstract: A housing for enclosing a weatherproof busway joint. The housing includes a pair of end pieces which are attached to and sealed to a busway enclosure near the joint. The busway enclosure houses, supports, and protects a plurality of electrical conductors enclosed therein and extends through an opening about in the center of the end piece. A pair of joint covers enclose the joint area between the two end pieces. A material which forms the sealing medium between the end pieces and the busway enclosures and between the joint covers and the end pieces. The weatherproof joint covers are placed between the end pieces of two adjoining busway sections such that the joint area is completely enclosed and sealed by the end piece and joint covers to prevent the ingress of water.

  • Patent number: 4820177
Abstract: An electrical distribution system having specially formed and insulated bus bars in back to back, stacked relationship with each other along the length of the busway and spaced apart where tap-off or other connection may be made. The bus bars are formed to be interchangeable, to the extent possible, within a busway section. For example, in a four bar plug-in section, the two inner bus bars are identically formed and interchangeable by rotating the bars 180.degree.. Similarly, the two outer bus bars are also identically formed and interchangeable. The electrical insulation between bus bars is provided by the use of insulating tubes comprising one layer of varnished glass cloth between two layers of polyethylene terephthalate. Each bar is provided with a hump located for tap-off connection along the length of the busway. The insulating tubes are spaced apart from each other on each bus bar to provide a tap-off contact surface on each hump.

  • Patent number: 4714431
Abstract: An improved plug-in assembly facilitating the tap-off of electrical current from bus bars carried in a busway section that includes opposite side rails and a plurality of plug-in openings formed in each of the side rails in back-to-back association or registration with each other. The plug-in assembly includes a substantially symmetrical insulating base and a door, each swingably connected to the side rail. Ears formed in the side rail adjacent the plug-in opening are aligned with ears formed on the door and a drive screw extends through holes in each pair of ears and into an opening in a support post provided on the side of each base. The screw is fittingly retained in the ear of the side rail while the door and base members fit loosely over the drive screw to permit those parts to swing between an open and a closed position. A metal cover latch is self-retained in one of a pair of symmetrically positioned latch retaining grooves on the front of the base which retains an integral catch portion on the door.

  • Patent number: 4705334
Abstract: A removable splice joint between two sections of busway constructed to prevent undesired relative movement of the component parts of the joint while also providing interchangeability between component parts and thereby reducing the number of different parts required for assembly of the joint. The joint includes a top cover plate and a bottom cover plate, each with an inclined periphery, a pair of identical outer phase barriers and a plurality of identical inner phase barriers. Each outer barrier includes a pair of ears which are respectively received in associated slots formed in the cover plates. Molded ribs formed on the barriers in cooperation with a square insulating tube which extends between the two outer phase barriers and through each of the inner phase barriers restrict relative movement between component parts of the joint assembly which is captivated by a bolt extending through each of the cover plates as well as each of the barriers.

  • Patent number: 4673229
Abstract: An improved housing for a busway system is provided by a two-piece ground bus which includes a generally U-shaped upper section having a top portion and a pair of parallel side flanges extending a predetermined distance and a generally U-shaped lower section having a bottom portion and a pair of parallel side flanges extending intermediate and parallel to the side flanges of the upper section. The main bus bars are retained intermediate the top portion and the bottom portion of the ground bus while also being positioned between the side flanges of the upper section of the ground bus. A side rail is provided on each side of the ground bus. A plurality of fasteners extend along the length of the busway section and connect each side rail with both the upper and lower sections of the ground bus.
