  • Patent number: 11625163
Abstract: A computing device displays a data visualization interface that includes a shelf region and a schema information region. The device receives user input to select a measure data field and a dimension data field from the schema information region. The device generates a custom calculation that groups data values of the dimension data field according to respective distinct data values of the dimension data field and aggregates data values of the measure data field for each of the distinct data values of the dimension data field. The device stores the custom calculation as a new selectable data field and displays the new selectable data field in the schema information region. The device receives user selection of the new selectable data field from the schema information region and placement of the new selectable data field in the shelf region. The device generates and displays a data visualization.

  • Patent number: 11429271
Abstract: A computing device displays a data visualization interface and receives user selection of a data source. The computing device also receives user input to select a measure data field and a dimension data field. In response to the user input, the computing device: generates a custom calculation that aggregates data for the measure data field, grouped by distinct data values of the dimension data field; and stores the custom calculation as a new selectable data field, associated with a data object corresponding to the dimension data field. The computing device also receives user selection of the new selectable data field and placement of the new selectable data field onto a first shelf in a shelf region. The first shelf defines a first data visualization characteristic determined according to data values of the custom calculation. The computing device generates and displays a data visualization based on the first data visualization characteristic.

  • Patent number: 10579723
Abstract: A graphical user interface for creating a data summary table includes a field pane including a list of a plurality of fields, and a layout pane including a plurality of zones. The zones represent areas of the data summary table, and the layout pane allows a field of the plurality of fields from the field pane to be added to a first zone of the zones. A data summary table is updated upon the field being added to the layout pane.

  • Patent number: 10423720
Abstract: A data analysis program receives a selection of data fields defining multiple row header areas and/or multiple column header areas for display in a summary table. Data is read from a data source containing values for the data fields and transformed into summary level data for building the summary table. A display is rendered in the summary table for each of the multiple row header areas and column header areas defined, with the row header areas being displayed vertically adjacent to one another and the column header areas being displayed horizontally, adjacent to one another.

  • Patent number: 10324592
Abstract: Slicers are configured to filter tabular data arranged in columns. A user may use the slicers to filter tabular data from a client application and/or a server based application/service. Slicers may be created for one or more columns and for all/portion of the tabular data within a column. Selection of a slicer element filters the associated tabular data and updates a display of the other slicers. Interaction with the slicers may also update other user interface controls that filter the tabular data (e.g. selecting a slicer element changes a value of a filtering setting in a drop down menu and/or selecting the filtering setting in the drop down menu changes a state of a slicer element). A slicer element may be associated with other objects in the spreadsheet and/or included within one or more functions of a spreadsheet.

  • Patent number: 10311080
Abstract: Generally described, embodiments of the present invention provide the ability to sort and/or filter information contained in a summary table based on related information that may not be included in the summary table. According to one aspect, a computer-readable medium having computer executable components for filtering or sorting information displayed in a summary table is provided. Included in the computer executable medium is a category receipt and identification component configured to receive selections of categories and identify related categories contained in a dataset represented by the summary table. Also included in the computer-readable medium is a filtering component and a sorting component, each configured to control the structure and criteria upon which information contained in a category displayed in the data summary table may be filtered or sorted.

  • Patent number: 9852121
Abstract: A system for automatically detecting relationships in spreadsheet data is disclosed. The system may be configured to analyze data items in the spreadsheet to determine whether two or more data items are unrelated. If the two or more data items are unrelated, then the system may notify a user of a need to define the relationship, and automatically defines the relationship for the two or more data items, or suggests the relationship to the user.

  • Patent number: 9727551
Abstract: A method and system associate conditional formats with selected data points or groups of data points within a summary table. In one embodiment, related groups of data are determined based upon currently highlighted cells in a summary table. A user then selects from the groups and identifies conditional formats to be associated with the specified data points. The conditional formats are associated with currently displayed as well as non-displayed data within the summary table. The associated conditions are saved relative to the data points rather than the original cell positions so that the conditions remain associated with the data points following a reorganization of the summary table.
