  • Patent number: 7810854
Abstract: A locking apparatus for releasably securing the lid of a trash container in a closed position has a locking arm with an elongate central portion for extending across the closed lid and bent end portions pivotally mounted on opposite sides of the container via pivot brackets which allow the arm to be pivoted between a first position extending across the closed lid of the trash container and a second position extending across the front wall of the container. The pivot bracket on one side is part of a locking device which has first and second locking formations on opposite sides of the pivot bracket, and the bent end portion of the arm on that side is releasably locked to the first locking formation by a locking member such as a padlock when the arm is in the first position and releasably locked to the second locking formation by the same member when the arm is in the second position.

  • Patent number: 6276562
Abstract: A lid support assembly for a trash bin lid rod has a plurality of rod supports engaging the lid rod and secured to the rear wall of the bin to resist bending of the lid rod. An elongate lid prop has an opening for engaging over the lid rod with a first portion of the lid prop extending away from the opening in a first direction to provide a support for the trash bin lid in a partially open position, and a second portion extending in a second direction away from the first direction to engage the rear wall of the trash bin. Rod supports are positioned on opposite sides of the lid prop to secure the lid prop in the desired position on the lid rod.

  • Patent number: 5085341
Abstract: A trash bin system used to secure the lids of a trash bin against unauthorized use. The system uses large and small lever arms pivotally engaged to each other that release the lids of the trash bin when the bin is lifted off the ground and inverted for dumping trash. The lever arms lock the lids shut once again after dumping is completed and the trash bin is set back down on the ground again. The small lever arms engage brackets mounted inside the trash bin keeping the lids shut when the bin is on the ground, and disengage from the brackets due to the force of gravity when the trash bin is inverted for dumping operations. A double pivot rear hinge mechanism may be used with each of the trash bin lids. Each mechanism is pivotally coupled to the rear end of one of the lids and to the back of the trash bin, and is used to hold the lid open when the trash bin is resting on the ground allowing a user to place trash into the trash bin.

  • Patent number: 4955501
Abstract: A trash bin lid-locking device used to secure the lids of a trash bin against unauthorized use. The lid-locking device, which may be used for different types of trash bins, uses two flexible cables connected to two elongated locking members that slide on an elongated track support attached to the front of the trash bin. The locking members may be slid apart allowing the cables to be fit over the front corners and lids of the trash bin. The ends of the cables are then engaged to slotted brackets attached to the sides of the trash bin and the locking members are slid together and secured by a padlock. The cables may be removed from on top of the lids allowing authorized use of the trash bin by unlocking the padlock and sliding the locking members apart until sufficient slack is provided in the cables to allow the cables to be removed. Another embodiment of the lid-locking device uses a single cable that may be placed over the top of the lids.

  • Patent number: 4850051
Abstract: A shop apron is provided with two straps extending from the upper right and left corners, respectively, of the apron, and two grommets having holes of a predetermined diameter, with the grommets being secured in and to the right and left sides of the apron. Each one of the straps are then led over each shoulder, across the back, threaded through grommetes on the other side of the apron, then brought across the back and tied to a fastener tab having Velcro-type material on its surface. Then, the straps are tightened and the tabs simply pressed together to fasten straps across the back. The apron may be taken off by detaching the tabs from each other, and are easily put back on by bringing the left arm, right arm and head through the straps and then simply pressing the tabs together to fasten the straps across the back .

  • Patent number: 4694667
Abstract: In order to avoid separation of a padlock and chain which are utilized together, an assembly including a pair of brackets is employed. The brackets are each formed of bent sheet metal stock with upstanding ears and outwardly extending arms which over-lie one another. The two arms have opposed notches for receiving and holding a link of the chain when the brackets are secured together by a one-way screw extending through the overlapping portions of the brackets, between the bracket ears. The bracket ears have spaced, aligned holes for receiving the pivot shank of the shackle of a padlock.

  • Patent number: 4520945
Abstract: A trash bin may be provided with one or more lids which are made of plastic or flexible metal material. These lids are provided with locking arrangements toward the front center portion of each lid which mate with corresponding adjacent locking mechanisms on the trash bin. A rigid, plastic reinforcing rod is provided within the lid toward its front edge and extending outwardly toward the front corners of the lid to prevent the lid being flexed or bent and opened, notwithstanding the locking mechanism. The center of the reinforcing rod may be secured at the inner center toward the front of the lid to a reinforcing plate which may in turn be secured to the locking mechanism on the outside of the lid. The locking mechanism may include a plurality of locks, in order to permit separate access by more than one party. In addition, the locking mechanisms may be arranged to snap into the locked position, so that a key actuation is not required for locking.

  • Patent number: 4516438
Abstract: A hay probe for taking samples from bales of hay includes a pair of heavy duty handles, a central mounting assembly, and an elongated probe, in the order of about a foot in length, and having an inner diameter in the order of about 3/8ths of an inch. Attached to the mounting assembly opposite to the probe tube is an impermeable sampling container such as a Mason jar. An elongated tamping rod is provided for pushing the contents of the probe tube into the container. Standardized samples may be obtained using, for example, 15 samples, which will substantially fill a normal one pint Mason jar.

  • Patent number: 4182530
Abstract: A commercial trash bin is provided with locking arrangements which restrict the use of the trash bin to the authorized user thereof, and still permit the dumping of the trash bins without wasting any extra time by the garbage truck operator. The lids are provided with a special latch which is disabled to permit dumping through gravity action when the trash bin is lifted and inverted and dumped. In one case the mechanism includes a heavy spring which is compressed by the weight of the trash bin, and in another case a gravity operated latch releasing mechanism is employed. In each case, to open the trash bin while it is in the upright orientation, a key-operated release, either in the form of a padlock or a built-in lock mechanism, is used.

  • Patent number: 4148411
Abstract: A balanced lid type system for industrial trash bins includes arrangements for partially opening the lid with little effort and for permitting the lid to swing wide open when it is inverted for dumping, as disclosed in U.S. Pat. Nos. 3,994,415 and Re. 29,494. The operative mechanism in the present balanced lid bin system includes rollers which ride on the top edge of the sides of the bin to support the lid in a substantially balanced manner, and a pair of recesses or guideways in the rear sides of the lid which engage matching pins or rollers extending laterally from the bin to guide the lid as it rotates open in the upright or balanced partially opening mode of operation. When the lid swings wide open, as it is inverted when raised by the forks of a lift garbage dump truck, the rollers remain at the end of the tracks in the lid and the lid swings fully open about this axis.

  • Patent number: 4098429
Abstract: A trash container lid system for placement on top of large industrial trash bins of the type utilized in hotels, apartment houses, etc., in which a lid section is rotatably coupled to a trash bin via lever arms rotatably coupled at one end to the sides of the trash bin and at another end to the back of the lid section. A pair of brace members are fixedly attached to the outer surfaces of the sides of the lid and extend downwardly, each being in physical abutment with one of the lever arms during the time when the lid is closed and when the lid is partially open. Stop extensions on the inside of the lid sections cooperate with the stop extensions rising above the back of the trash bin for stopping the lid in a partially open position, the back section of the lid being counterbalanced for stabilization in this position.
