    Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product modify messaging behavior based upon parsing and different processing of different portions of a request. In a method, a request is received that includes a first and second differently formatted portions. The method parses the request to separately identify the first and second portions, analyzes the second portion of the request and causes a message based at least in part upon the first portion to be transmitted to a request processor. Based upon the message including the first portion, the method receives a response from the request processor. Based upon the response from the claims processor, the method causes a response to the request to be provided. The message to the request processor or the response to request is modified or an additional message to another entity is transmitted based upon an analysis of the second portion of the request.

Methods may include: analyzing and parsing the electronic transaction request message for information associated with the electronic transaction request; identifying a discount applied to the transaction request based on the information associated with the electronic transaction request; validating application of the discount to the electronic transaction request based on rules established for the electronic transaction request; storing a transaction record of the application of the discount to the electronic transaction request; mapping fields from the electronic transaction request to a standard format; generating a discount payment request report to accompany an invoice to a manufacturer; receiving payment for the discount from the manufacturer; and providing payment of the discount to the first party.

    Abstract: Systems, methods are provided for communicating financial benefit information associated with an electronic prescription transaction submitted by a healthcare provider as part of the healthcare provider's medication selection process for a patient. The transaction may be received at a service provider computer from a healthcare provider computer and may include patient identification information and one or more identifiers for a product being prescribed to the patient. The service provider computer may identify a financial benefit provided for the product and may transmit the transaction, including the identified financial benefit for the product, to a pharmacy computer. The identified financial benefit for the product may alternatively and/or additionally be transmitted to a healthcare provider computer or a patient communication device.
